We took a drive through Coryville, a small McKean County community situated along Route 446 between Smethport and Eldred.

Also historically known as Frisbee, Coryville is the kind of peaceful Pennsylvania place where the scenery is beautiful, the traffic is light and getting stuck behind a tractor may be the closest thing to rush hour.

Sometimes the places that take only a few minutes to drive through are the ones that best capture the character of rural Pennsylvania.

We wandered into Nomad Distilling Company in downtown Williamsport, where locally made spirits, cocktails and good conversation all gather under one roof.

Nomad has been producing spirits in Central Pennsylvania since 2018, and its Williamsport tasting room is a great place to sample what they make, pick up a bottle and discover another locally owned business.

We didn’t try all ten varieties. We believe in supporting local businesses, but there’s a narrow line between community service and needing somebody else to drive home.

While driving the backroads of Terry Township in Bradford County, I unexpectedly came across Spring Lake. This peaceful 58-acre lake is tucked among the wooded hills and rural countryside—the kind of place you might never discover unless you’re willing to leave the main road and see where the drive takes you.

We visited Buzzsaw Coffee inside the Pajama Factory in Williamsport, where the coffee is roasted on-site in small batches and taken much more seriously than the dusty container sitting in your office breakroom. ☕️😂

Buzzsaw’s story began when the founder’s mother insisted that he drink coffee black. By age 14, he had his own espresso machine—and what started as a childhood interest eventually became a lifelong career in coffee.

Today, Buzzsaw serves approachable, freshly roasted coffees from around the world, with selections that change throughout the year.

A drive along Route 187 between Durell and Macedonia takes you through some beautiful Bradford County countryside—but the unusual stories behind the names make this short stretch even more interesting. One community remembers an early pioneer and sawmill owner. The other may owe its name to a preacher whose sermon became a local nickname that never went away.

While exploring the Coudersport area, we stopped for lunch at Vinny’s Bar and Grill!

Located at 762 North Main Street, Vinny’s offers a relaxed atmosphere and a full menu featuring burgers, sandwiches, wraps, pizza, appetizers and rotating specials.

We enjoyed a good lunch, friendly service and enough food to make climbing back into the vehicle feel like the day’s most demanding physical activity. 😂

Keystone Furniture Restoration has moved from Washington Boulevard to a new home inside the Pajama Factory in Williamsport!

They specialize in preserving and restoring furniture that has been scratched, cracked, faded, broken or repeatedly attacked by generations of children, pets and overly enthusiastic vacuum cleaners.

Before throwing away that old table, chair, dresser or family heirloom, let an experienced craftsperson determine whether it can be brought back to life. Quality furniture was built to last—and sometimes it just needs a little professional attention.

The same argument has been made about me, but nobody has offered refinishing yet. 😂

We visited several businesses inside the Pajama Factory in Williamsport, but the building itself quickly became part of the story.

Built beginning in 1883, the massive eight-building complex first produced rubber goods and later became the largest pajama factory in the world.

Today, its 300,000 square feet are home to more than 100 artists, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, studios, workshops, event spaces and residences.

The worn floors, exposed brick and long factory hallways preserve the building’s industrial history, while the people working inside continue filling it with new ideas.

It’s a wonderful example of what can happen when an old building is given a new purpose—and with 300,000 square feet to explore, getting slightly lost may be part of the experience. 😂
