🔥 Break/Fix IT vs. Managed IT 🔥

One waits for the fire.
The other tries to keep the fire from starting. 😄

With Break/Fix IT, you call when something is already broken, everyone is stressed, work has stopped, and somebody is asking, “How fast can you get here?!”

With Managed IT, your systems are monitored, updates are handled, backups are checked, security is watched, and potential problems can often be caught before they turn into a full-blown Monday morning disaster.

Think of it like this:

🚒 Break/Fix IT = Call the fire department
🧯 Managed IT = Have smoke detectors, sprinklers, and someone watching the building

Technology should help your business run, not keep you wondering what’s going to break next.

Want to know what Managed IT could look like for your business? Give us a shout. We promise to use fewer acronyms than the average IT company. 😉💻

💻 Your computer shouldn’t have to qualify for retirement before you replace it.

Technology has a lifespan. Computers slow down, servers age, warranties expire, and that trusty old Wi-Fi equipment eventually starts communicating in what can only be described as smoke signals.

The problem isn’t old technology.

The problem is waiting until it dies at the worst possible moment. 😬

A simple technology replacement plan can help you:

✅ Budget for upgrades instead of getting surprised
✅ Replace equipment before it causes downtime
✅ Keep your systems secure and supported
✅ Avoid the dreaded “EVERYTHING IS DOWN!” emergency
✅ Keep your team productive and a whole lot happier

The goal is simple:

👉 Replace on a plan — not in a panic.

Not sure which of your computers, servers, or network equipment may be ready for retirement? We can help you put together a technology lifecycle plan that actually makes sense for your business.

💾 Having a backup is great. Having a plan to actually USE it? Even better. 😅

When disaster strikes. Whether it’s ransomware, a failed server, a power surge, or someone accidentally clicking the wrong thing. “Oops!” isn’t exactly a recovery strategy.

Here’s the difference:

✅ Backup = Copies of your important data
🔄 Disaster Recovery = How you get your systems back
🚀 Business Continuity = How you keep working while everything gets sorted out

The real question isn’t just, “Do you have a backup?”

It’s:

👉 If your business went down today, how fast could you recover?

Because technology problems are stressful enough. Your recovery plan shouldn’t be.

Why Restarting Your Computer Actually Matters

Yes, restarting your computer really can fix the problem.

Restarting is not just an IT cliché. It can:

✅ Complete important updates
✅ Clear stuck programs and temporary processes
✅ Free up system memory
✅ Reconnect hardware and network services
✅ Apply software and security changes

Closing the laptop lid is not always the same as restarting it. Leaving the computer running for weeks can allow small problems to pile up.

Save your work and give your computer a proper restart occasionally—especially when Windows says one is required.

It is basically a fresh start for your computer. Honestly, people could use that button sometimes too.

Three Signs Your Laptop Battery May Be Becoming Dangerous

Is your laptop beginning to look a little puffy? That is not a feature.

Lithium-ion batteries wear out over time, and a damaged or swollen battery can become a serious safety hazard.

Watch for these three warning signs:

🔋 The case, keyboard, or touchpad is beginning to lift or bulge
🔥 The laptop becomes unusually hot near the battery
⚡ Battery life suddenly drops or the computer shuts down unexpectedly

You may also notice the laptop wobbling on a flat surface or the case beginning to separate.

Do not puncture the battery or push the case back together. Stop using the laptop, unplug it when safe, and have it inspected.

Replacing a battery is usually much cheaper than replacing a laptop—or repairing fire damage.

What Happens When Your Only Backup Is Connected to the Computer

Your backup may not be safe just because it exists.

If your only backup drive stays connected to your computer or network, ransomware, malware, power damage, or accidental deletion may affect the backup along with the original files.

That could leave you with two copies of the same problem—and no clean way to recover.

A stronger backup plan should include:

✅ Automatic backups
✅ More than one copy of important data
✅ An offline or isolated backup
✅ Cloud or off-site protection
✅ Regular recovery testing

A backup is not truly successful because the software says “completed.” It is successful when your files can actually be restored.

Keep at least one backup out of reach of the problem.

Microsoft Will Not Unexpectedly Call About Your Computer

Microsoft is not going to randomly call and tell you that your computer has a problem.

Scammers often pretend to be Microsoft, Windows Support, or another well-known technology company. They may claim your computer has a virus, your account has been hacked, or your device is sending error messages.

Their real goal is usually to:

✅ Gain remote access to your computer
✅ Steal passwords or financial information
✅ Install malicious software
✅ Pressure you into paying for fake repairs

Do not give an unexpected caller access to your computer. Hang up, close suspicious pop-ups, and contact a technology company you already know and trust.

When in doubt, stop the conversation before the scammer starts controlling it.

QR codes are becoming the new suspicious links.

They are quick, convenient, and everywhere—but a QR code can hide its destination until after you scan it. Scammers are using fake or altered QR codes to send people to fraudulent payment pages, fake login screens, and websites designed to steal personal information.

Before you tap:

✅ Preview the web address
✅ Watch for stickers placed over existing QR codes
✅ Use the company’s official app or website when possible
✅ Be extra cautious with payment and login requests
✅ Stop immediately if the page asks for unusual information

A QR code is still a link. Treat it with the same caution you would any unexpected email or text message.

Scan smart. Verify before you tap.

Why every financial change should be verified by phone?

One quick phone call could save your business thousands.

Scammers often impersonate vendors, employees, or trusted companies and send emails claiming that banking details, payment instructions, or account information have changed.

The email may look completely legitimate—but before sending money, changing direct-deposit information, or updating payment details, always verify the request by phone.

✅ Call a number you already have on file
✅ Speak with a known contact
✅ Never rely on the phone number listed in the suspicious email
✅ Slow down when the message feels urgent

A two-minute verification call can prevent a very expensive mistake.

Verify before you send.

AI Has Made Scam Emails Harder to Spot?

Thanks to AI, phishing messages can now look polished, professional, and much more convincing than they used to. That means bad grammar and obvious mistakes are no longer the only warning signs.

Before you click, reply, or download anything, take a closer look:
✅ Check the sender’s full email address
✅ Be cautious of urgent requests
✅ Verify payment or password requests another way
✅ Don’t trust an email just because it “looks official”

AI may be helping scammers sound better, but a few smart habits can still protect you. When in doubt, verify before you reply.
