Wishing you a joyful Beltane 🌷

May Day marks the turning of the seasons, and is a pagan holiday which focuses on renewal, abundance, growth, and fertility. There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate the day, but you might dance, sing, and appreciate the abundance of nature around you. You might honor your own creative fertility by making something from scratch (a piece of art, a cake to share with friends, a summer skirt or shirt from a favorite fabric). Or you might practice quietly by listening to some music, making a seasonal meal, and lighting candles (in olden days, Celtic farmers would light bonfires and drive their cattle between the fires to bless them — you might bless the days ahead and give thanks for abundance thus far).

And at dusk tonight, be sure to look to the sky for the first full moon of May, the flower moon 🌸🌝

Tee-riffic! 👚👕

It’s been a minute since I’ve mentioned these silkscreen printed t-shirts I made a few years ago, but I still love how they turned out and I still have a handful ready to be added to your wardrobe! It’s cool to see how all three of these designs started as simple sentiments, quickly sketched in my sketchbook. But as with many creative ideas, if you let them grow they tend to take on a life of their own.

“Let Love Grow”, “Please and Thank You”, and “Fight Injustice” all available for purchase at this Saturday’s .day.market — on sale for the steal-worthy price of just $10 🤯

Unable to attend the market but want to snag one for yourself? Let me know which design you want, your preferred size, and I’ll ship to you for just $5. Help me make room for new creations!

It’s Earth Day! 🌎

In honor of environmental awareness and protecting our natural habitats, here are some playful little spot illustrations I did earlier this year for the Critter Crawl: Wonders of the Rainforest.

If you’re not one to think much about your environmental impact on the world, maybe today’s an opportunity to make some changes. Support your local public transit and pedestrian/cycling infrastructure (and vote for candidates who support these things!) Instead of buying everything brand-new, think about ways you can minimize your consumption, buy second-hand, borrow from your community, and upcycle things you already have. If you’re a big meat-eater, try incorporating meat-free days into your week. And above all, support your local community — shop local, shop small, and stop supporting giant corporations and CEOs who have a terrible track record when it comes to environmentalism and social welfare (looking at you, Jeff Bezos).

It might feel like a drop in the bucket, but small changes from individuals can make a big impact when you add them all up. Happy Earth Day!

It’s about to rain here in Houston, but you know what they say — April showers bring May flowers… that is, if you remember to plant your seeds first 🌱

Today’s prompt: Seed Packets

I’m trying to be more intentional with my garden this year, but it’s hard with all that life throws at you! We’ve at least been able to plant a few things. So far we’ve got marigolds, nasturtiums, spinach (which never appeared), and sweet potatoes in the front yard. The backyard is a little more haphazard with its many weeds 🥴 But the bees love those unintentional wild flowers!

If you follow along and draw any of these prompts, feel free to tag me and I’ll share your art to my stories 🥰

Oh look, another springy sketch has flown onto my sketchbook page 🪺

Today’s prompt: Robin

This one was super quick and imperfect (20 minutes or so), but I’m trying to ignore perfection and just get something on the page with these — for me, the goal is to get back into the habit of mark-making and not feel too precious about the outcome. This is why setting the timer is so helpful. If I had all the time in the world, I know I’d be tempted to erase, redraw, blend, add shading, add details, and before you know it I’d have spent hours on something meant to be “just for fun” instead of getting more important work done.

If you follow along and draw any of these prompts, feel free to tag me and I’ll share your art to my stories 🥰

🌸 Hello world! 🌸

It’s been much too long since I’ve a) posted anything and b) challenged myself with daily drawing prompts. But as I clean the cobwebs off my brain and shift back into an attempted normalcy (the last few months have been anything but normal — more on that later), I’d like to ease into the month of April with some springy inspiration.

Today’s prompt: Apple Blossoms

If you, too, could use some springy inspiration, I encourage you to grab your favorite drawing implements and have a go! These will be low-stakes posts (once a day or once a week? Totally up to you), and because I have too many client projects to focus on, I’m not spending more than 30 minutes on each one of these.

If you draw any of these prompts, feel free to tag me and I’ll share your art to my stories 🥰
