June is National Safety Month, and this year we’re focusing on one simple idea:
Proactive safety starts with better management of operational change.
The National Safety Council’s theme this week is “Moving Safety Forward,” which is a good reminder that safety improvement doesn’t always require a major program overhaul. Sometimes, it starts with catching the everyday changes that quietly create risk.
Procedure adjustments. Temporary workarounds. Material substitutions. Equipment modifications. Staffing changes.
These changes may seem routine in the moment, but they can create serious safety gaps when teams don’t review, document, communicate, and follow up on them.
That’s where management of change becomes bigger than PSM compliance.
Operational risk doesn’t only exist in covered processes. It also shows up in the daily decisions that affect how people work, what hazards they face, and whether existing controls still apply.
This month, we’ll be talking about how you can move safety forward by managing operational change more proactively.
We’ll also be covering this topic in more depth during our June 18th webinar with the National Safety Council on the benefits of applying MOC beyond PSM requirements.
