Most everyone who knows me knows my stance on artificial reefs and the importance of keeping them as private and non published for as long as possible for the sake of the fishery
Those who know me also know my stance on the certain companies that publish and sell private artificial reefs for profit and almost single handedly destroyed a thriving fishery .

SEA DEPTH is not one of those companies. They provide highly detailed and precise bathymetry features of the sea floor. I’ve had in-depth conversations on numerous occasions with them and have been assured they’ll never be the folks to take off the backs of the fishermen who built this fishery and that’s a big deal for me.
We appreciate their support and encourage you to support them as well. So please consider them over the folks that helped destroy 50 years of a built fishery.

SEADEPTH USER SPOTLIGHT: Brycen Hammon | Central Gulf of America

Pretty cool seeing SeaDepth earning its keep in the same waters I grew up fishing.

Growing up in Houma, these are the waters where I learned to fish and may or may not have ventured out a little too deep a little too young with not enough engine. Seeing SeaDepth now help uncover new bottom and put fish in the boat in my old stomping grounds makes this one especially rewarding.

Brycen was one of the very first to purchase the SeaDepth Central GOA chart when we launched this past March. He took a chance on something new before there were months of catch pictures and success stories behind it, and I’ve always appreciated that.

And he’s been putting it to work.

A few weeks ago, Brycen and his crew used SeaDepth to explore some new bottom and absolutely crushed it—13 tilefish on one drift out of a mud bowl that you wouldn’t find on C-Less or StrikeOut charts, along with a mess of Queen Snapper and Yellowedge Grouper to seal the deal.

Even better, it was his buddy’s first trip offshore, and he came home with a 42" yellowedge grouper, 43" queen snapper, 17 lb tilefish, and the only barrelfish of the trip. Not a bad first trip, but definitely puts some pressure on Brycen to perform for the next trip lol. They eventually had to call it because they were running out of ice.

Brycen also mentioned that he has found small pieces of bottom using SeaDepth that weren't showing on his other charts. That's the kind of feedback I love hearing.

Then this past weekend they switched gears and went swordfishing. They hooked a good fish, lost it at the boat, stayed after it, and boated another one.

That’s exactly what I hoped SeaDepth would become when I started this —not a collection of fishing spots, but a tool that gives fishermen a better look at what’s actually beneath the boat and the confidence to explore areas they might otherwise run right over.

SEADEPTH USER SPOTLIGHT: Michael Tonelli | Viking Yachts

A big thank you to Michael Tonelli for sharing his experience using the SeaDepth South Florida / Bahamas chart.

Over the past month, Michael has been putting SeaDepth to work from Stuart to Marathon in the Florida Keys, using it to target everything from swordfish to Queen snapper. One of the coolest parts of his story is that he caught those Queen snapper on the ride in after a successful swordfishing trip out of Marathon.

It makes you wonder how many times he had run over that same piece of bottom before without ever knowing what was there. With SeaDepth, he identified the structure, made the drop, and capitalized.

One of the things I enjoy most is hearing how anglers are using SeaDepth to gain the confidence to fish new areas. Michael summed it up perfectly:

"I have noticed the accuracy on it is very good. Pinpoint a location with structure and it's there. The last few times we have used it deep dropping and just experimenting. I usually don't like experimenting, but with SeaDepth it allows you to pick those spots and locations without second guessing."

That statement really captures what SeaDepth was built for.

There are countless subtle pieces of bottom structure that never get fished simply because they're difficult to identify, or anglers don't have the confidence to spend time exploring them. SeaDepth is designed to remove that uncertainty by revealing the small details that often make the biggest difference.

Spent this past weekend fishing the Texas Oilmans Charity Invitational Fishing Tournament out of Matagorda with clients and colleagues.

Friday started with a bumpy ride offshore, but the fishing didn't disappoint. We put our endangered red snapper limits in the box with ease using SeaDepth, along with some quality beeliners. From there, we ran offshore to the FADs where the action stayed steady. We boated four nice mahi and hooked something big on the shotgun... but unfortunately, something with a lot of teeth had other plans and cut us off right at the swivel.

We wrapped up the day with a swordfish drop, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Saturday we pushed farther east and headed straight back to the FADs. They were loaded with life, and before noon we had already added five more nice mahi to the fish box.

At that point we had a decision to make—head back for the awards ceremony or keep fishing.

Thankfully, everyone onboard voted to stay.

I decided to make a swordfish drop in an area I had never fished before. After a quick drift test using SeaDrift we found we were moving just over a knot. We made one drop where I marked bait, but our drift speed and direction didn't give us much time in the zone.

Rather than settling, we spent a few minutes exploring until I found a ledge that would give us a longer, more productive drift.

Using SeaDepth, we found exactly what we were looking for.

We set the buoy rod and the tip rod, and about 30 minutes into the drift the buoy laid over and stayed down. We came tight.
The fish came within about 100 feet of the boat in only 45 minutes, and for a moment we thought we had her whipped.
She had other plans, and dove back down past 1,000’.

After three hours of back-and-forth, we finally put a nice sword in the boat. She was long and skinny, but still pulled the scale to 171 Ibs.

That's what I love about SeaDepth. Being able to pull into an area I've never fished before, quickly identify productive ledges, locate bait, run a drift test, and keep our bait in the strike zone gave us the confidence to stick with the plan—and it paid off.

A huge thank you to Ryan Doxey, Troy Day, Tom Hilton, and the Houston Big Game Club for putting these FADs out. Every one we fished was holding life, and they're an incredible asset to the Texas Coast. The mahi were chewing just about everything we pulled behind our dredge, and we took 1st and 2nd place Mahi for the TOCIFT.

South Florida / Bahamas Chart

A huge congratulations to Dante Pullano, Bryce McMillan, Mike Calabrese, and Team Overkill on an outstanding performance at the One More Bite Sailfish Challenge out of Stuart, Florida—finishing 3rd Place Overall and taking home the Top Calcutta Boat honors!

Yesterday I randomly texted Dante to ask if he'd had much of a chance to use SeaDepth yet. His response was yes and his feedback is in the screenshots below.

Over two incredible days, Team Overkill went 6 for 8 on sailfish. One of the keys? Using SeaDepth to locate subtle sand divots that were holding bait, and those bait concentrations were holding sailfish.

I'll be honest—I never envisioned SeaDepth being used to target sailfish. But after hearing Dante's experience, you can add sailfish to the growing list of fisheries where SeaDepth gives anglers an edge.

Whether you're chasing Sailfish, Swordfish, Wahoo, Tilefish, Grouper, ARS, or hunting new structure offshore, SeaDepth is helping anglers find fish that others overlook.

Another coincidence was seeing Mike Calabrese of Firetailz Dredges on the crew. Mike is a longtime friend that I used to fish with years ago when he was mating on the Patriot, and I had no idea he'd be fishing this tournament with Dante. Pretty awesome to see SeaDepth locating the fish and Firetailz dredges bringing them to the boat!
