I realized what better art lesson to teach on the day after the total eclipse? Positive and negative space, of course! Presented by my twin sister - in from England for the event, you know - who is definitely way cooler and more interesting than me 😎. Gotta keep it fun and light, right? And gotta grab that imagination while it’s hot 🌞⚫️🌞. Oh and I’m definitely considering taking on her look for real at some point 😜.

Moody new ad from Squarespace - kinda like it! If you haven’t checked them out in a couple years - or even one year - they have been going GANGBUSTERS on features, functionality and designing without limits. Especially when coupled with , it’s not only a designer’s dream, but clients have a powerhouse of built-in features for selling products, booking classes, building online courses (used it myself!), building your email newsletter and so much more. is a great activity for all ages and promotes a relaxed, meditative state of being 🧘

Super easy steps: draw a few flowy lines that intersect in several (but not too many!) places and break up the page into interesting shapes. Trace over the lines with sharpie and at each intersection, soften the sharp corners into soft "scoopy" curves, like the neural connections in our brain. Color the sections as you wish - good colored pencils or watercolor pencils work well!

Loved seeing all the bright colors, patterns and free-flowing lines the children created in their work 🤩⁠!

Love seeing all this detailed and creative Zentangle work coming out in the children’s work! 🧑‍🎨

It can be useful to start Zentangling (especially for younger children) by focusing on just ONE large pattern filling the square of paper, then moving to two patterns at a time, and so forth (first photo). Then eventually you see the intricate and beautiful work of multiple “tangles” together, as in these works by the older children!
