I've worked at a non-profit who had used interns in the summer (no pay). It was a win-win situation. The interns knew there wasn't the budget to pay them, nonetheless they wanted to be a part of something, and get the experience, which they got. The company also got some very talented people who were able to contribute substantially. Not all intern jobs are for the rich and famous.

If you’ve been looking for an internship and just can’t get one, here are some tips.

It's true, that most candidates will not take the time and trouble to find out why they were rejected. That is because they know they will not get a constructive answer. However, I believe that if a candidate truly wants to understand the reason better, the hiring manager should be able to come up with "language" that is helpful to the candidate - not something generic like "we've hired someone more suitable" - but maybe why they were more suitable - "we've hired someone who has had experience in IPO's" - for example, without putting the company at risk. A truly professional and well-meaning hiring manager should and would do that

It's a painful conundrum of the job search process: rejected candidates want to understand why they didn't get hired, but employers, fearing discrimination complaints, keep silent. And those who do speak up offer little more than platitudes.

The reason Americans are losing jobs at a lower rate is because companies have cut out so much fat - they are now down to the muscle tissue - and you know you can't cut out the muscle. Most employees (if they are lucky to be called that) are doing the work for 1 1/2 or 2 people.

Data from the Labor Department may help explain why long-term unemployment persists.

Who would have ever believed when Facebook and Twitter started that they would be accepted by the SEC to disclose key information.

The SEC says companies may use social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) to disclose key information and still be in compliance with Regulation FD, as long as investors know where to look for the information.

Twitter is becoming the new job board, and it is also becoming the new résumé. Some recruiters are turning to the social network to post jobs, while job seekers are trying to summarize their CVs in 140 characters or six-second videos.
