I promise you Cheepware isn't dead. I've been busy setting up my Linux-based BBS! Come visit via telnet at bbs.outpostbbs.net, now on port 23. I am checking out another door kit I could create doors for multiple OSes like DOS, Win32, OS/2 and *NIX (Linux for now but I can compile for FreeBSD if asked).

I released a new utility called NODECONV for DOS, OS/2, and Win32 today via the usual outlets. This utility will convert a FTN net/node address from hexadecimal to decimal and from decimal to hexadecimal. Nothing big or fancy but very useful.

I've been working on the doors. I've fixed "auto local login" capability and error logging and have made several minor code updates.. The doors are undergoing testing here at HQ and elsewhere. Once I get this done, I'll be releasing the doors as open source using the three-clause BSD license.

I have been working on Cheepware: the doors can now run in "auto-local mode" and I've fixed the multinode support as well as several minor code updates. I have split the documentation into four files which makes things -much- easier to update for me. Hopefully within as few weeks, I'll have everything ready and release door maintenance updates.

I've finally moved my BBS to MBSE under Devuan Linux and decommissioned the Maximus/2 system. My next project is to work on Manndoor and make it my own. Rick gave me permission to do what I want with it so now the big job is integrating my own door code into Manndoor and making sure it all works. I will changing the name of my forked doorkit and it will be released under the BSD 4-clause license. Probably will take me a few weeks of working over a hot compiler but I will get there. When I'm done, I will make it available on my Sourceforge repo. Right now, I can compile DOS doors using TP7, Win32 and OS/2 doors using Virtual Pascal/2, and Linux/FreeBSD 64-bit doors using Free Pascal.

Would it be worth my time to invest in the infrastructure for me to produce 64-bit Windows-native doors? Is there a need for such a creature?

A quick update: I am moving my BBS to MBSE under FreeBSD. I have successfully compiled a door under FreeBSD using the Manndoor (from Rick Parrish/Manning) doorkit. I haven't tested it yet but am going to do so as soon as I can. I am planning on still creating DOS, OS/2, Win32, and Linux64 doors but in order for me to do so, I will need to have sysops who run a BBS under one or more of these operating systems to help me test them out. If you're interested, please let me know via netmail (preferred) or email. I am considering setting up a beta team private echo in Micronet for this effort also.

I haven't announced it here yet but my official support echo, CHWARE, is on the Fidonet backbone once again.

I just updated the Cheepware webpage with a lot of software I'd not realized I had. I put a few more of my doors on there, a lot of utilities I wrote for various BBS software, along with software by Shawn Highfield , Frank E Rauhuff , and Daryl Stout. A reminder that the Cheepware door source code archive is available from the website now also.

I released CHDRSRC.RAR tonight that contains the complete and updated source code archive for my Cheepware BBS doors which are being released under the Cheepware License, my BSD-like four-clause license. I hatched it out via CH-WARE and MIN_BBS. It is also available via FREQ, anonymous FTP, and direct calling my BBS. You will need Turbo Pascal 7 or Borland Pascal 7. This source will not compile correctly with Free Pascal.
