A quick audit does not have to be complicated. Start with three things. Check your access controls and make sure only the right people have access to patient data. What is real right now is that AI tools are helping flag critical findings faster, prioritize study reads, and reduce turnaround times in some workflows. That part is already happening.

What is still hype is the idea that AI is about to replace radiologists. It is not. The technology works best as a support tool, not a replacement.

Before you sign an IT contract, make sure your provider can answer five simple questions. How do they handle HIPAA compliance? What is their response time when something critical goes down? Do they actually support PACS, RIS, and DICOM workflows? Can they manage your vendor relationships? And what does proactive monitoring look like on their end?

If you are getting vague answers or long pauses, that tells you everything you need to know.
