This morning I sat on the beach and cried out. I need a word. Just send me a word. And He did.

When you go out to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own you shall not be afraid for the LORD your God is with you.

Because my enemy isn’t always on a battlefield. My enemy is anxiety. Fear. My own mind at two in the morning when nothing makes sense and the giants look too big and I look too small.

Let not your heart faint. Do not fear. Do not panic. Do not dread. For the LORD your God goes with you to fight for you to give you the victory.

He goes with you. He fights for you. The victory is already His to give.

By myself I am nothing. But I am not by myself. I in Him and He in me. He wages war before me. He fights battles behind me that I cannot even see.

So I am done putting my eyes on the army. I am putting my eyes on the one who split the sea. Who made the walls fall down.

That God is my God. And He is yours. Let your heart not faint.

We love to quote it. The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. And we say it like it’s still true about us.

But here’s what we forget. That was written before Pentecost. Before the Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh. Before God did exactly what He promised.

I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. He did that.

So when the enemy whispers you are still the same man you used to be. That is a lie. And an old one at that.

You were washed. Cleansed. Redeemed. A completely new creation. That old man is dead. Not struggling. Not on life support. Dead.

And in his place. His heart beating inside you. The mind of Christ where your earthly mind used to be.

This is your reality right now. Not someday. Not when you get it together. Now.

Stop going back to the grave to visit who you used to be. That person has no power over you anymore.

His heart is in you. Live like it.

Successful men long to be seen. But not the way you think. As the bride not the benefactor. As the beloved not the breadwinner.

I will seek God for others easily. Intercede for others. Stand in the gap for others. But to receive from him for myself? To sit in his presence not as a servant but as a son? That is where I struggle.

Song of Solomon says I am my beloved’s and he is mine. Jesus said you did not choose me but I chose you.

The Father doesn’t want your performance. He wants your presence.

You will suffer no want. You will suffer no lack. Put your hands to the plow and keep your eyes on him. Speak life. Honor others. Show them the way to life abundantly.

Not the benefactor. Not the breadwinner. The beloved. Freely receive every promise. Freely gift them away.

I’m a sprinter by nature. All out every time. Then fall down dead. Attack everything with everything I have. Burn out. Recover. Go again. Or give up altogether.

I’d go further than anyone on that first push. And eventually get beat by the guy who never stopped. Classic tortoise and the hare.

But here’s what I’ve learned. The sprinting wasn’t wasted. It built a capacity for work that most people don’t have. I just had to learn what to do with it.

So I stopped asking how fast can I go and started asking what pace can I sustain. Writing. Working out. Content. Even laundry. A pace that feels almost too easy. And I do it again and again and again.

Nobody tells the sprinter. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

Find the pace that feels effortless and make it a habit not a moment. You’ll go further than any sprint ever took you.

There is something God has given you to share. A testimony. A story. A word. A season you survived. A truth that nearly broke you before it set you free.

And you are sitting on it.

What God gives you to share isn’t actually yours. It belongs to the man who needs to hear it. The brother still in the dark because you kept your light to yourself.

Scripture says freely you have received freely give. Not eventually. Not when it’s convenient. Not when you’ve got it all figured out. Freely.

What has God given you that you have been irresponsibly holding back? Someone is waiting on the other side of your story.

Give it away.

They cried to the Lord in their trouble and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still. And brought them to their desired haven. That is your God.

But are you dropping anchor when God is telling you to open up the sails?

We dictate how God will work based on our past performance. Based on our failures. Based on what we’ve done and left undone. And that is a lie.

God is not looking to curse you. He is looking to bless you. To give you a future and a hope in him.

The only time God tells us to look back is to remember his goodness. His faithfulness in the storm you already survived. That is not shame. That is fuel.

Don’t drop anchor. Open the sails. Your desired haven is closer than you think.

Whatever is true. Whatever is honorable. Whatever is just. Whatever is pure. Whatever is lovely. Whatever is commendable. Think about these things. Philippians 4:8

Most of us read that as a perspective shift. But I think it’s less about your perspective and more about your posture.

Perspective is how you see something. Posture is how you position yourself toward it. And what you position yourself toward you move toward.

Where the mind goes the man follows. Where the man goes his family follows. His legacy follows. His future follows.

Our focus is our future. So be ruthless about what you let take up space in your mind.

Not as a suggestion. As a command. Written by a man in chains whose perspective was a prison cell but whose posture was freedom.

Do you ever just want to reboot? Legs stuck. Can’t move forward. Feeling like everything is lost and you won’t ever win.

Romans 12:2 says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Not your circumstances. Your mind. The breakthrough starts up here.

Three things that have rebooted my mind every single time.

Relearn. Most of what is keeping you stuck is something you decided was true a long time ago that isn’t.

Reframe. Flip the script. Change the narrative. See it differently. Whatever is true. Whatever is honorable. Think on these things.

Recharge. Let it settle. Rest your mind. Let it recover and be ready to attack what’s next.

Relearn. Reframe. Recharge. The breakthrough you’re waiting for starts with the renewing of your mind.

I can get myself to do almost anything I put my mind to. Give me a mountain to climb. A door to knock down. Weights to lift. I’m in.

So when I read this verse it stopped me cold. What is desired in a man is steadfast love. Proverbs 19:22

Love? Lord give me something manly. Give me a battle to fight.

And then it hit me. Love is the hardest thing to be steadfast in. God doesn’t call us to do what is possible among men. He desires we do what is only possible with his Holy Spirit. To love. And love steadfastly.

You think you’re tough? Love. You think you’re manly? Love. You think you have iron will and unwavering focus? Try love.

The measure of a man is the measure of his ability to love. That’s the mountain. That’s the weight. That’s the battle.
