Here is proof of why recapping is an excellent idea. The Grey capacitor below is well within tolerance with no ESR but is also a 50 years old Elna. Cut open to see the difference in a new cap. Compared it with a brand new Nichicon. The 50yr old cap was burned and way more dry on the inside. The Nichicon was heavily saturated with electrolytics. Some Techs will say its redundant or overkill to replace them all but I highly disagree. Lots of times they are also leaking on the underside where its not visible until removed. Fun little project. Here is a Fender Bassman aa165 that had previously been recapped with the wrong cap kit. The preamp first stage capacitor was a 22uf instead of 8uf. The 0.1uf output coupling caps were blue astrons but previously replaced with tiny axials that were .022uf. I can not approve of some of these parts being used in Classic circuits. The small cheap parts have their uses but probably not the best for high voltage tone caps. Plate voltage was 455vdc and idle was adjusted to 29.2ma. The only capacitor I'm not happy with is the super tech 8uf that I didnt have an f&t for because I trusted someone else's work before I ordered parts and it going to play shows soon. I will swap that out when I see it again to replace another Blue molded that leaks. Good thing is, I wont have to replace that many parts on it again. Tested with a 4 ohm and 8 ohm load.

Undistorted-16v (32w)
Max clipped-22v (60.5w)

Sounds great and looks like a treasure. The neon tape reminds me of The Vibe-Raiders (one of my old bands)

Here is a gibson Les Paul that got a new Pure Tone 1/4" jack and some Orange drops installed to replace the factory ceramics. It was wired with the 50's style wiring so no treble bleed was needed. Testedbit out and it sounds and plays great! STAY TUNED!

Here is the repair of a Yamaha CR-620. I traced the issue to the preamp side of circuit. Replaced a couple components before finding the crack in the circuit board where I had to trace repair. I used a few solid wires to regain some structural strength and super thin stranded wire for the longer runs. After regaining the channel I still replaced the caps under the frame areas so they dont have to be removed when the rest of the restoration is finished someday. I did get the go-ahead to replace the bulbs and the main filter caps that were about half their rated value. Idle was adjusted to 8mv per channel and output tested at 46.5 watts @ 8 ohms which is quite a bit higher than the 35 watts the spec sheet says. Sounds great now! STAY TUNED!

Fixed up this Technics SL-D2 for a friend of mine. Got all the electrolytic capacitors replaced, cleaned and reoiled the spindle, adjusted the speeds, installed a new Audio Technica AT-VM95E cartridge and stylus, adjusted tracking angle and effective tonearm length, adjusted the tracking force to 2g, then replaced the broken foot and now its ready for it's new home. Here is the repair of a 1965 Fender princeton Reverb that had a bad power supply cap that had previously been replaced with a bundle just zip tied instead of the correct can. There was also a recap job done on it that used cheap capacitors that im not happy with. It is back to sounding right but the tone would be a little better with better caps. I keep seeing this and it kinda upsets me because it is a greedy thing to recap a USA made vintage classic with poor quality chinese capacitors etc. I will happily swap them out but its expensive to the owners of them to have to redo what has already been done. Finished a pair of Dynaco A-25's that were gifted to me from a friend that I restored so Large Advents for a month or so ago. They were in pretty good shape. Needed new grill cloths and crossover caps. Used so.e Howard's feedin wax on the wood and it really made them look nice. Just need to order the name badges. STAY TUNED!

This has been my slowest month in over a year. I do have lots of imediate openings for Stereo repairs and restorations. Generally a Full restoration is finished in 2 weeks but even quicker if I have everything on hand. A full Restoration includes all electrolytic capacitors, tantalum capacitors, diodes, small signal transistors, power supply transistors, removing old corrosive glue, audio adjustments, cleaning, lights, power rating test. I can offer partial restorations as well or just a repair depending on the condition of the electronics. Feel free to reach out to me and schedule a time to bring something by.
