I used a CIA technique to figure out something on my own systems last week. I hear it. I am a guy in Kansas City who gets businesses found by AI.

Here is the thing though. Everything I did before this came with a rulebook. Somebody wrote it twenty years ago, everybody in town got the same copy, and you just had to run it better than the guy down the street.

AI does not have one. Nobody has written it yet. Anybody selling you certainty about this stuff is guessing.

So when I need to figure something out I go find whoever already solved the hard part, even if they solved it in a completely different building.

Richards Heuer spent his career on a single question. How do you get to the truth when some of your information is wrong on purpose. He called it Analysis of Competing Hypotheses.

You ever have a month where nobody walks in and you start second guessing everything? The sign, the prices, whether people even want what you sell.

Then somebody tells you the front door has been locked since June.

That was my website. I get businesses found by AI for a living, and my own site was turning AI away at the door for weeks while my dashboard sat there green.

Found it myself. Late, but I found it.

The businesses AI recommends instead of you are not better at AI than you are.

Most of them have never thought about AI one time in their life.

They have got one thing you do not have. I went and pulled every business AI names in one of my client's categories to find out what it was, and it took me about ten minutes to see it once I quit looking at my own guy.

Then I tried to shortcut it, and got my hand slapped pretty good.

Caught my own AI lying about my own company last week. On my own website. In the part nobody can see.

It called us a web development agency. Nobody typed that. It had our name, nothing else, and it filled in the blank with whatever sounded normal.

Same reason you ask AI for the best BBQ in Kansas City and it hedges. It only knows what it got fed.

Then I had two AIs check each other on it and they agreed with each other for four rounds straight while both missing the point completely. Took a person to catch it.

So here at Lefty we would like to know how much editing Josh Haddad at CONTENTkc had to do to make Nathan Hall sound remotely close to a normal person.

Huge thank you to Stucker Construction Incorporated for tolerating our founder, it had to be excruciating.

We truly are thankful and proud of what we have built. This whole AI thing is scary and our goal is to make it simple and a heck of a lot less scary. We teach AI how badass KC is, and that we are not national chains, but AI will never know this unless we train it and that is what Lefty does.

Asked an AI that does not know me for the best coffee in KC the other night. It gave me a chain. In this town. I about took it personal.

Here is the thing. It knows Starbucks. It has never heard of Opera House, or Friendly Bean up north, or that little two dollar train at Line Creek my kids rode a hundred times.

That is not the machine being dumb. Nobody ever taught it our city. So that is what I do now. I teach it the places you would send a friend.

What a week. I am not taking one second of any this for granted, enjoying every minute of this ride.

Mickey Hall and me next to our Lefty banner at the Kansas City AI Club Expo. She's put up with a lot of late nights for that banner. Getting to stand there with her meant everything. How Kevin Stucker puts up with me, no clue, the guy should win an award or something. Josh Haddad with CONTENTkc coming out to get some amazing footage was awesome, and let's put him in the same boat as Kevin, no clue why he puts up with my shenanigans.

Then this one. Kareem Rush is my partner. Yeah, that Kareem Rush. Mizzou Hall of Famer, NBA vet, one of the most down to earth guys I've ever met, and he's all in on Lefty. Still can't believe it.

We also filmed a podcast this week. Big name. Big podcast. If you love baseball in Kansas City, you already know where this is headed. Not saying his name yet. Comes out next Wednesday.

Nobody plans to start a company from a hospital waiting room. I sure didn't.

VoyageKC asked for my story and I gave them the honest one. Zoie's heart, four open hearts before she lost her baby teeth. My own rough years. What all of it taught me is simple, and it runs everything now: work can wait, people can't.

So I build the thing that keeps a business from vanishing once everybody starts asking AI who to hire, and I do it without swallowing somebody's nights and weekends to get there. Time and being seen. You shouldn't have to trade one for the other.

Got to talk about our partner Kareem Rush too. This town knows what he did on a court. I wanted them to know who he is when nobody's watching. Most honest and kind person I have ever known.
