If any of you use TrueCrypt, we want to give a brief synopsis of what has transpired over the past day or so.

First and foremost - DO NOT UPDATE TO TRUECRYPT 7.2! The latest known good version of the software is 7.1a. Stay there!

Alan Henry at Lifehacker has a pretty good overview of the sudden change to TC's web site and the sudden updated version of the software at http://lifehacker.com/truecrypts-web-site-updates-with-ominous-warning-detai-1582879439.

Steve Gibson has published a blog post and an overview of the issue. His conclusion from all of the information available is that the 7.1a version is currently secure, but the developers no longer have an interest in the program and are cutting ties now and urging people to move away from the product, as they will no longer support it - which doesn't mean that you should jump ship immediately, but keep your eyes and ears open.

This is big news in the world of information security, as TrueCrypt was an extremely popular and cross-platform solution. We'll continue to follow the issue and publish our recommendations as more information is available.

Change your eBay password and anything that used the same password. Pro tip: Don't use the same password on multiple services, if you can avoid it.

If you have an eBay account, it's time to change your password. The company released a statement today saying their internal and customer databases were compromised earlier this year, and starting today they'll prompt everyone to change their passwords.
