Had a great time at the Lansing Rivers & River Trail Cleanup at Potter Park Zoo yesterday!

This seventh twice-yearly community-wide cleanup marked an important milestone, celebrating the dedication of thousands of volunteers who have helped keep our waterways and trails clean and welcoming. Volunteers came together for a great day of service, teamwork, and community with equipment provided, special activities, free food and snacks, and appreciation gifts for their efforts.

Thank you to Michigan Waterways Stewards for organizing this fantastic event.

I was honored to attend the Juneteenth Capital City Kick-Off Ceremony this morning at Lansing Community College, and hosted by the Lansing Juneteenth Celebration Committee.

Keynote speaker Dr. Toni Glasscoe delivered an inspiring message about legacy, the importance of celebrating Black history and culture, and commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and reflection, education, and community.

On Friday, May 29th we’re cutting the ribbon on Phase 1. The first piece to open isn’t the main stage. It’s the Lansing Public Media Center, a community media facility attached to what will become a 2100-cap long awaited music venue in Downtown Lansing. Recording studios, podcast suites, post-production bays, and a 70-seat screening room in a building that will also serve as a core venue and HQ for the Capital City Film Festival. The Ovation staff offices are also located in this Phase.

Once open in 2027, the Ovation will have many features and components that make it super fun and memorable, but having the LPMC at its heart is the most unique one by far.

Phase 1 is the headline today. The main stage follows in 2027. You don’t have to wait to walk inside. Come celebrate with us, we’ll have performing live and popcorn popping!

Attended a Constituent Contact Meeting hosted by Adam Hussain on Saturday, May 9, at the Alfreda Schmidt Southside Community Center. Residents had the opportunity to hear updates on South Lansing and discuss important community issues affecting the area.

State Senator Sarah Anthony also shared updates on state-level initiatives, economic development efforts, and opportunities connected to important projects impacting Southwest Lansing and the region. It was encouraging to see community members engaging directly with local and state leaders to help strengthen and support the future of South Lansing.
