I've been working with the Doña Ana Arts Council for over a year, promoting their work with the local arts community. On Sunday, October 1, they will hold their 30th Annual Community Arts Awards and Fundraising Gala at their new home in Mesilla. I can't tell you who the awards recipients are...yet...but it is going to be a classy event with live music, lots of delicious food and beverages, and much more!

I'm busy promoting the Albuquerque Ukekopelli Festival, which takes place September 29 - October 1. If you play the ukulele, like to write songs, or want to learn to play, there's something there for you! There's even a special set of Sunday morning workshops just for young budding songwriters. Or you can simply enjoy the Friday evening concert performed by amazing instructor performers. Information at www.abqukefest.com.

I'm working with the Doña Ana Arts Council and the Rio Grande Theatre on press releases to publicize their many events. Here's an upcoming event that looks like a lot of fun! I'll be heading there after the Ramble.

On Friday, September 2, extend your visit to the First Friday Art Ramble by staying for an outstanding Dixieland Jazz concert at the Rio Grande Theatre. The musicians are talented jazz artists performing under the name The Second Line Survivors: special guest artist Mike Sizer on clarinet, tenor sax and vocals; David Jellema on trumpet; Frank Otero on trombone; Mike Francis on piano; Ricky Malichi on drums; and Jim Shearer on tuba and vocals. Sizer is an internationally renowned Dixieland Jazz musician who performed with the famed Dukes of Dixieland and created much of the soundtrack for the PBS show “Great Chefs of New Orleans.”

Tickets are $12 for students or members of the Jazz & Blues Society, which is co-sponsoring the event with the Doña Ana Arts Council, or $17 general admission, with all fees included. The Rio Grande Theatre is located at 211 N. Main Street in Las Cruces. More information and tickets are available through the website, www.riograndetheatre.com or by calling (575) 523-6403.
