Just hit the biggest milestone of my career, $1 Million earned on Upwork!!! 🎉😭💰Today is a day that I will never forget.
Here are 5 things that helped me get here and hopefully they will help you too 👇
1. Play the long game
My first job on Upwork paid $25/hour and I had to submit 43 proposals to land it. But I didn't care, I was beyond excited that someone was paying me money to work from the comfort of my home. Be grateful that you are living in a time like this.
2. Consistency and Discipline are a winning combo
If you want to be successful on Upwork, you have to be more consistent and disciplined than the average freelancer. Take some of your leisure time away and invest it into your freelance business.
3. Being a good person is more important than you think
I like to think that I have pretty good self-awareness. My goal is for my clients to like working with me as a person and to fully trust me.
Reputation >>> Money
4. Offer a weekly or monthly service package
The bulk of my freelance money comes from weekly or monthly maintenance packages. After I complete a job on Upwork, I message the client and pitch a weekly or monthly SQL Server maintenance retainer. This has a very high conversion rate for me. If you add value to a business or solve a problem for them, there's a high chance they will want to work with you long-term.
5. Add additional streams of income
When I started freelancing, I had a full-time job as a SQL Server DBA making over $70k/year. This allowed me to build my freelance business on the side without having to constantly stress about money. There's nothing wrong with having a full-time job. I had two SQL Server DBA jobs before switching to full-time freelancing and my second one paid over $113k/year. I also make money every month from YouTube, affiliate marketing, mentoring/coaching, dividends, and plan to add courses this year.
The more income diversity you have, the less financial stress you will have
