We love seeing people in the community step up to help first responders and each other when it matters most.

Huge shoutout to Caliel Rodriguez, who caught a four-year-old girl falling from a second-story window before West Metro Fire Rescue firefighters even arrived. His quick action likely prevented a serious injury.

West Metro Fire Rescue recognized him with their Citizen Award. Congratulations, Caliel!

A four-year-old girl was falling from a second-story window. Caliel Rodriguez was there to catch her.
On July 23, West Metro Company 8 was dispatched to an apartment complex on Wadsworth Boulevard for a reported fall involving a child. Before firefighters arrived, Caliel spotted the little girl hanging from a second-story window.
He didn’t hesitate. He rushed into position and caught her as she fell, preventing what could have been a serious or even fatal injury.
The child was evaluated by West Metro paramedics and was able to remain with her mother.
On Tuesday night, we recognized Caliel with the West Metro Citizen Award for his quick thinking, courage and willingness to step in when it mattered most.
Sometimes, being in the right place at the right time isn’t enough. You also have to act. Congratulations, Caliel- and thank you.

South Brazos County Fire Department has begun purchasing a second set of protective gear for each firefighter. This allows one set to remain available while the other is cleaned and decontaminated after a fire.

This investment supports South Brazos County ESD #1’s commitment to cancer prevention and firefighter health and safety.
