You’re in the groove of a new school year, and it’s a busy time whether you’re a freshman or senior. Of course each grade brings its own pressures, but your schedule will feel jam packed! School clubs, intramural sports, part-time jobs, band practice, volunteering, homework!… and just hanging out with friends.

Some people think of time management as squeezing the fun out of a day by regimenting everything. But that’s far from the truth. Managing your time is like using a calendar as it was intended. There are only so many hours in a day or week, and you’ve got a bunch of things you’d like to get done.

SO TO HELP YOU GET TO THE FUN STUFF, HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR SCHEDULING YOUR TIME DURING HIGH SCHOOL.

- Have a plan.
-- Have a schedule.
--- Study smarter, not harder.
---- Don't overbook yourself.

Student portfolios are used all the time by athletes, artists, and performers. But even if you don’t fit one of those categories, there’s another reason you (yes you!) absolutely need a portfolio: it’s important to job recruiters!

You’d be surprised how much an employer can learn about you from a portfolio that they’d never get from a standard resume. So why not take the opportunity to wow them, and virtually lock up a chance at an interview?!

Check out our blog for details on how to use a student portfolio to get hired!

To say “college is expensive” is putting it mildly. Tuition, housing, transportation, books, meal plans, sports tickets, and other fees pile up fast. The average overall cost of a bachelor’s degree is $30,000 per year! Most families don’t have that kind of money laying around, but don’t fret!

Tons of artists and musicians are pursuing careers unrelated to their creative skills: mathematicians, biologists, fashion designers… But why not make the most of your passions by using your talent to pay for college?!

Take musicians for example. Here are 15 WAYS to earn some cash for college:

Screenwriting is the art and craft of writing scripts for mass consumption. Your college essay isn’t written for the whole world to experience like a feature film, but you can make a lasting impression by using screenwriting tactics.

Any story can be boiled down to three key ingredients:

hero (or subject),
conflict (or hardship), and
resolution.

The same ingredients make a great personal essay in a college application, even if it’s just a few hundred words. Keep in mind the purpose of the essay. This is your chance to help the admissions office get to know who you are as a person. It’s your chance to bring facts to life, just like a screenwriter would.

Hero. This essay is about getting to know you, so don’t fill your space with too many additional characters. You, the college applicant, are the primary subject.

Conflict. Life is challenging and you’ve faced some hardships, no matter how good your upbringing was. Heroes dealing with hardships make stories interesting.

Resolution. Things get better in the end. You learn from mistakes, mentors guide you, family members deliver a support line, and so on. Whatever the topic, your essay’s conflict needs to be resolved within the essay.

How are your essays coming along? Let us know in the comments!
