Last year I joined the Polka! Press Print Cooperative, partly to have access to a bigger and better press than I will ever be able to fit in my basement home studio, but also to join a community of other artists and printmakers to learn from and collaborate with, and even in a year that was full of other exciting developments in my practice, it has been an important part of my growth as an artist in the last year.
We learned in November that we would be losing our lease at the end of April. After the initial panic, we are excited to have found a great new location and will be moving out of our current basement location and in to a great, street-level location in the Atwood neighborhood of Madison. We have great hopes that this space will let us become a resource for the wider community to explore printmaking.
To help support our move and to establish a fully wheelchair accessible and safe space for all ages and abilities in the Madison area to explore printmaking, and expand community access to open studios and programming, we are raising funds to help us better outfit our new space to be a more fully functioning printmaking studio with the tools, equipment, and resources to support our members and offer programming to the wider community.
As the artist in residence at Pinney last year, I learned that there is a great unmet demand for this kind of arts programming in Madison, and we have big dreams for what more we can do in the years to come. Will you contribute to help us make these dreams into reality?
