Protect Yourself During Earthquakes:

1. Drop (or Lock)
Wherever you are, drop down to your hands and knees and hold onto something sturdy. If you’re using a wheelchair or walker with a seat, make sure your wheels are locked and remain seated until the shaking stops.

2. Cover
Cover your head and neck with your arms. If a sturdy table or desk is nearby, crawl underneath it for shelter. If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall (away from windows). Crawl only if you can reach better cover without going through an area with more debris. Stay on your knees or bent over to protect vital organs.

3. Hold On
If you are under a table or desk, hold on with one hand and be ready to move with it if it moves. If seated and unable to drop to the floor, bend forward, cover your head with your arms and hold on to your neck with both hands.

If you don’t have a transfer switch, you can use the outlets on the generator—providing you follow certain precautions:

It’s best to plug in appliances directly to the generator. If you must use an extension cord, it should be a heavy-duty one for outdoor use, rated (in watts or amps) at least equal to the sum of the connected appliance loads. First check that the entire cord is free of cuts and that the plug has all three prongs, critical to protect against a shock if water has collected inside the equipment.

At Fenix Prep, we always recommend consulting a licensed electrician to ensure that all electrical systems in your home are up to code and working properly.

Sure, packing light is always nice. However, you won’t know what you really need until you’ve been camping a few times. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that you’ve packed too much. It’s fine to be prepared for all situations until you can put together your own, personalized list of essentials to pack.

New to Hydroponics? RESEARCH!

Each plant you decide to grow with hydroponics will be different from the next. Even one batch of tomatoes may behave differently than the next batch. Before you start growing, make sure to research each crop and learn about its pH, temperature, nutritional, and light preferences. Once you know this information, you can begin to imagine which crops you will keep near each other and which you cannot grow at the same time in the same place.

Let's talk seeds!

How do I store pepper seeds for future gardens?

The key to maintaining pepper seed viability is in how it is stored; you must keep a constant temperature and eliminate any excess moisture. Correctly stored peppers seeds can last for many years, although the germination rate begins to wane as time goes by.

Store seeds in a cool, dark, dry area in temps between 35 and 50 degrees F. (1-10 C). Keep them in airtight plastic bags within a Tupperware container, for example, in the fridge. You can also store your seeds in tightly sealed glass containers, just keep the seed dry and cool.
