Ringing in the New Year with some more art for your eyeballs.
I was inspired by seeing The Koffin Kats play at The Magic Stick this past weekend. I thought, "why not an undead mummy cat?"
I used the Neon Lights color pallette collection from Paper Heart Design Co. to make this one, specifically "Hong Kong Neon." Shoutout to Annie for curating such useful shades. I experimented with textures in Illustrator for the first time as well. 🧠

Ladies, gentlemen, nonbinary folks, everyone, I present to you: Breakfast!!
I really have been on a food kick when it comes to my artwork.
For this piece, I was inspired by one of the silk screen and acrylic pieces in Andy Warhol's series 'Skulls' (1976) as well as a meal I had while watching the film 'Julie & Julia' (2009), which is a love letter to food.
While painting this, part of me was a little self-conscious about the sheer silliness of it. I do want to expand the subset of my art that covers social/political subject matter, as people like Liberal Jane Illustration and the colorful aggressiveness of my favorite bands relentlessly inspire me.
But hey, it was also fun to make!

Behold: My first painting of 2023!!
Overall, it's been a pretty warm winter by Michigan standards, and we've had some sunny days, but I'm wishing for Summer all the same. Freeze pops are a treat that make me super nostalgic. 🧊

Already posted this to the 'gram, but for my Facebook people:

Time to hop on this trend again! This year I:
▫️ Expanded the digital illustrations in my portfolio
▫️Launched my website and blog
▫️Chugged away at portrait commissions of both loved ones and furry friends
▫️Fell in love with Pop Art
▫️Painted two acrylic series
▫️Designed a mini mural
▫️Worked with a new medium for the first time (POSCA markers)
▫️Started to further explore logo design
▫️Did volunteer work with Public Arts Midland to facilitate a community mural painting at ACE Hardware

This Fall I landed my first 9-5 "big girl" job where, along with admin work, I do graphic design and get to use Illustrator every day!

As stated in my last post, Winter has been tough. However, I'm currently enjoying a vacation this week where I'm rejuvenating, reflecting and planning!

In 2023, I want to keep expanding with logo design, get back to updating my blog regularly, sell more prints and originals, get consistent with content creation, plus a lot more! I'm excited to continue my growth.

I've had Matthew Lillard on the brain lately, since Andrew and I watched the 2002 live action Scooby-Doo last night. SLC Punk is my favorite role of his.

It's been a little bit since I've done a pop art piece, and finally today was a day where my free time and creative energy converged. Getting back to my art has been a challenge due to mental health issues, but hopefully once I take the necessary measures fatigue will hold me back less.

This month's blog post is all about type! Yes, graphic design can be punk rock.

So what is typography anyway? Well, in class I learned that it’s the style or appearance of text. Basically, the aesthetic vibes of letters and numbers.

The second painting of my 'Alternative Pride' series incorporates the colors of the le***an flag!! I had so much fun creating this piece and hope it gives cool representation of POC in subculture.

As a reminder, I'm currently raising funds in exchange for art for the Trevor Project, an organization that provides crisis intervention and mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth. This is desperately needed given the political climate in the U.S.

Anyone who donates $10+ will get a colorful drawing of their pet or favorite animal done with Posca markers!! All you have to do is send me a screenshot of your reciept and any reference pics you like. Feel free to look at my profile for more examples of my work.

In my next set of pieces called 'Alternative Pride,' I'm depicting p***y characters and encorporating the colors of pride flags!! Diversity in subculture is important, and I think this chick looks pretty cool.

Reminder that I'm also holding an art fundraiser for the Trevor Project, an organization that provides crisis intervention and other support for LGBTQ+ youth. More details are in my last post!!

My use of stickers was inspired by Rissa Groves Art, a fellow q***r artist who you should also follow. They also have an art fundraiser going for abortion funds!!
