Please pray
One of our longterm missionaries, Alicia, recently shared news of an increasingly challenging situation in Haiti,
“…the ongoing gang violence - which is affecting Haiti as whole, not just Cite Soleil - is unlike anything I've experienced so far. The multitudes of families seeking refuge as they flee gang attacks makes my heart sink, hearing the words "peyi'm pa bon" (my country is no good) from my friends brings me to tears, and the war cries from the major gang leaders echoed on the radio stations is enough to stir up fear in any heart.”
Our commitment to empowering the people of Haiti isn’t rooted in convenience. Jesus rarely sailed with his disciples on calm waters. Instead, he spoke calm into the center of the storm. Our commitment to Haiti is a calling, and while God never promises us safety, we are assured the goodness of his presence.
We know that most of you feel the same way, which means that (like us) news of a deteriorating situation within Haiti will only lead you to lean-in with an even greater resolve. We know that as news sources broadcast stories of food shortages, violence, and political instability, we will all feel the urge to pray with greater fervency, give with greater generosity, and remind the world that Haiti will once again rise from the ashes. We will tell stories Haiti’s beauty, grit, and the lessons she has taught us (and continues to teach us).
Or as Alicia wrote, “While getting to Cite Soleil still isn't possible, our staff living there still carries out the ministry by delivering water and feeding the elders and children. I've received these pictures among others over the past week from one of our incredible staff members. I am so crazy proud of the work they do, and am grateful for the ways they love and support their own community.”
Pray for our Haitian staff and missionaries who continue to serve.
Pray for those we serve, that they would be protected and cling to the hope that Jesus offers.
Pray for peace in Haiti.
