Still being casual into the Magic the Gathering scene, I find prerelease events a wonderful way to engage. Everyone is on similar footing with the sealed format, but also you play with the cards you just got too. Got to try another local stores version of the event. GriffoNest Games 🎲🎮 had over 50 players. The community they have built was warm and welcoming. Overhearing other players who were either new to the store or new to prerelease formats all were welcomed and giving grace and advice as needed.

GRIFFONEST in Woodstock, IL is definitely a FLGS to visit if you are in the area. Not to mention the historic Woodstock Square that the store is located at which may look familiar from Groundhog Day.

It’s madness on how detailed these tiny game boxes are from Shelfy by Brotherwise Games

Your starter kit comes with the shelfy and 5 games to kick off your display. Then add shelfy boosters of 3 games per box. Right now there’s 28 in total to collect including 4 special treatment boxes. The Gloomhavens on the top are a great example of the difference.

It’s fun and silly, but as my day job has me at a semi permanent desk it’s the perfect opportunity to bring in and display my favorite past time.

A little late with Gen Con getting the middle of the monthly turn over but here is the July

It was a slower month by play count but a few heavy hitters made it to the table including Twilight Imperium and Hegemony.
During the routine game night Arkham Horror Official Fantasy Flight Games took primary space with multiple sessions of Mansions of Madness and Eldritch Horror.

Not Alone Remastered Edition by Ghislain Masson and published by GEEK ATTITUDE GAMES Luma Imports

I got to try this new version out while at Gen Con. For year I’ve been aware of Not Alone but never got to playing it.
This remastered edition takes the former expansions and incorporations them into the core experience. With an all vs one team gameplay with asymmetric play it was a lot of fun getting into people’s heads playing the creature.

It was instantly apparent why this has been a staple for many years and I’m glad to have finally played it.

I got to sit down with Samuel Bailey and dive into the Old Ones Origins coming to gamefound soon by Chaosium Board Games Chaosium Inc.
Coming from the reimagined Forbidden Stars Sam has been refining the game for more than 7 years at this point. The production already looks amazing and getting into the weeds with future plans and how the campaign will lay out, it’s going to be something you won’t want to miss. While not out yet Old Ones Origins was a delight and highlight at Gen Con this year.

Okay I’ve gotta say this may of been the highlight of Gen Con for me personally. Fantasy Flight Games announced and had some early pieces of the new Arkham Horror Remastered.
Having retuning to tabletop games back in 2005 with Arkham Horror 2nd edition. Seeing this beautiful remaster has some of the classic hallmarks and chatting with the FFG team there is some amazing things in store for this edition and you should follow the campaign on gamefound.crowdfunding for all the news.

Don’t forget to slow down and take care of yourself. Even after a day I can feel my voice starting to give out. Some early breakfast and tea and I’m recharged and ready to hit that Gen Con floor all over again.
Today we’ve got some scavenger hunts, plus Arkham Horror and a full evening of fun ahead.

Pace yourself, stay hydrated, and get out there and roll, roll, roll!

Restoration Games kicks off a stand alone Thunder Road Ingition which can play on its own but can be mixed with Vendetta for even more chaos.
A few rule shifts keep the game a little more friendly and taking out player elimination. The map is also fully built with pit stops that act at check points if you car(s) get destroyed.
With quicker play time and faster turns it was a blast!
