Hope you all had a great holiday season! It’s been pretty quiet on here as I’ve started a new full time job, but hoping to getting back to posting more this month.

I also wanted to thank you all again for your support! This month AdaptShield turns one year old and it’s been a fun ride so far. Excited to see what 2026 will bring.

A common thing that I see pretty often is people rent generic router and modems from their internet service provider. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily.

These internet providers often share your connection that you're paying for with other customers. I typically recommend buying a separate modem and router yourself that you can control. That way you can ensure your connection speed isn't less than what you are paying for AND you have more control over who has access, etc.

Last month I had a client reach out through a referral because they wanted a way to protect their children while they were out running a quick errand to their neighbors or the grocery store. They wanted a way for their kids to call in case of an emergency or generally when their children had concerns.

What was wonderful about this is that they wanted to be sensitive on the approach they took to introducing technology and not just throw a smart phone at them. Needless to say I was SUPER excited to hear that. With AdaptShield's guidance, they were able to select a wifi phone for their home (think old school phone from the 90's) and select a smart watch customized for them and the risks that they wanted to address for their children when they are on the go.

I often recommend a layered approach to technology as children are growing to give both parents and children the comfort level and insights that they desire.

The Holidays are prime time for hackers to target you. With the convenience and ease of buying things online, it's more crucial than ever to always be aware of anything that doesn't feel right. Here are some things to keep an eye out for:

1. Do NOT click links from emails. I'd recommend going to the website itself and when purchasing, verifying that the web site starts with https.
2. If you receive an email or a high number of popups simultaneously requesting you to take prompt action, stop a minute and ask yourself if it is legit.
3. Enable two factor authentication on your accounts. This will limit access to accounts from people that don't need it and make them more secure.

Hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving! As I was reflecting on the holiday, I am grateful for all of you this past year that have liked, shared, or referred my business to your friends. I created AdaptShield to help support families navigate the uncertainties of our digital worlds and it has been an exciting journey so far and that is because of you.

Your family's safety is more than a guess. Without clear understanding on what they may be exposed to, it's a shot in the dark hoping that you've put the right things in place to address some of these risks. You probably haven't seen many postings lately, and that's because I've been working pretty hard behind the scenes developing a FREE family risk snapshot. Kids are back in school, or maybe your internet is just running slow from the thousands of devices that are connected to it? Did you know you don't have to buy a new router or a more expensive internet speed? Some routers have a setting called QoS = Quality of Service

It lets you prioritize traffic in order you specify...So if you prefer streaming services like netflix or gaming consoles, you can set it and forget it. Say goodbye to buffering.

I found out about this years ago and it's a pretty great setting. Especially with kids back in school and now having to watch videos and constantly doing homework online.
