Creatives are freaking out about AI.
Some swear it’s coming for our jobs. Others think it can replace design altogether.
Here’s where I land: AI will never replace human creativity.
Yes, it can crank out logos, images, even “brand concepts.” But most of them feel flat and forgettable. AI isn’t design. It’s a tool, like stock photography or Canva. Helpful? Definitely. A substitute for brand strategy and real communication? Not even close.
Design isn’t decoration. It’s communication. It’s how brands connect with people in a human way. Take out the human element and you end up with something awkward and lifeless. People notice, even if they can’t explain why.
The businesses betting on AI instead of investing in real creative are making the same mistake as thinking Canva in the hands of any employee equals hiring a designer. Canva makes design accessible, but accessibility isn’t expertise. Knowledge, theory, and experience are what turn ideas into messages that truly resonate.
AI has its place. I’ll use it to organize my thoughts, speed up research, or get past a creative block (my ADHD brain appreciates the boost). But that’s where it ends. Like stock photos, it helps you move faster, but it will never replace the vision and insight behind great design.
A brand is alive. It evolves. It demands originality, specificity, and intention. AI can speed up the process, but it can’t replicate the human spark that makes design powerful.
I’m pro-AI, but I’ll always bet on human creativity. That is the real power behind design.
Curious what you think: is AI just another tool, or do you see it replacing creative work?
