She was ready for this at nine. He might be ready at eleven, or twelve, and neither number says anything about where he'll land.

Development doesn't run on a family schedule. It runs on its own clock, kid by kid, sometimes years apart between siblings raised in the same house.

Watch where he actually is, not where she already was. Uluru meets him where he is right now, not where his sister was at his age. Start free, link in bio.

Ask him to explain the plan and you're testing his memory. Ask him to start the first step right then and you're testing something else entirely.

Those two things get mixed up constantly, and only one of them predicts what happens after you leave the room.

If you want to know whether the plan will hold, watch the first five minutes, not the recap. Uluru stays through the first five minutes, not just the recap. Start free, link in bio.

Repeating the rule louder in that moment doesn't reach him, the part of his brain that would listen isn't the part running the show right now.

Wait for calm to come back, then replay it: what happened, what it felt like, what could go differently next time.

He's not ignoring you. He's temporarily unreachable, and that's a different problem with a different fix.

Uluru tracks these patterns over time so you know which moments are actually reachable. Start free, link in bio.

Before you take the earbud out, watch what actually happens to his work when it's out.

For some kids, total quiet is louder than music, because there's nothing to hold their attention in place.

The rule "no distractions" was written for one kind of brain. His might just need a different one. Uluru meets him where his attention actually works, not where the rulebook says it should. Start free, link in bio.

The score inside a game is the easiest kind of feedback to design. It's also the easiest kind to fake progress with.

What actually transfers is practicing the messy version: the real worksheet, the real timer, the assignment he doesn't want to do.

That's a harder thing to build. It's also the only thing that counts. Uluru doesn't sit inside a game, it sits inside the actual homework. Start free, link in bio.

That meltdown in the car isn't the day going wrong, it's the day finally being safe enough to end.

She wasn't saving it up to hurt you. She just didn't have anywhere else it could go.
The version of her you see at pickup is the real one, not the one who held it together for seven hours.

Uluru's feedback runs during the school day itself, not just what shows up at pickup. Start free, link in bio

Calm through math. Falls apart over two sentences of writing.
Not a mood swing, a different task asking something different of her.

Same kid, different amount of regulation available to her right now.

Uluru meets kids task by task, not with a fixed read on who they are. Start free, link in bio.

Real talk: some of the parents raising kids with executive dysfunction are living with it too, since ADHD is largely genetic, and that gap gets easy to internalize as guilt instead of information. The good news is executive function is buildable, not fixed, and some of the most effective practice looks like Jenga, matching games, or mental math while making the grocery list, no worksheets required.

New on the blog: activities you can do together, and why doing them together (not just teaching them) is what actually moves the needle 👉🏼 https://theuluru.com/executive-functioning-activities-at-home/

Building these skills as a family is exactly why Uluru exists.

Ask her later what losing felt like versus what failing felt like. The answers won't match how loud each reaction was.

One of those things she's protecting. The other, she's already made peace with not being good at.

That gap is where the actual help is.

Uluru meets kids in these moments as they're happening, not after the meltdown's already over. Start free, link in bio.

It's called the planning fallacy, and almost everyone does it
Ask for the guess before they start, then check it against the clock.

Uluru asks for the guess and checks it against the clock, every time. Start free and watch the estimates get better. Link in bio.
