I'm Megan Knape. I am a fashion stylist from Michigan with a background in fashion design and graphic design. I moved to New York this past September to pursue a career in fashion. I am working on a highly collaborative visually dynamic self-published book called Lfty about my communities, culture, and fashion here in NYC and a taste of my home state Michigan. e a magazine with artsy photo shoots, articles, interviews, illustrations, and hand type. I am passionate about capturing real people of all varieties, bold and clean graphic layouts, and bringing artistic people together. The book is called Lfty because I interpreted the word to mean a creative, adventurous, different point of view. Each photo story will be accompanied by a blurb from me, my friends, or the subject about their life experiences, opinions on culture and fashion, and wisdom, hopes, and dreams. The style and format will vary from story to story but each will feel true to the subject and graphically striking. This page is to keep everyone updated about the photo shoots and progress.

Vilma Bautista Huaman is one of my dearest friends here in Peru. She listens to my broken Spanish, always wants to know more about my projects and travels, and affectionately calls me brave. I am so blessed by her warm, loving presence. This is one of the photos from my Manta Proyecto featuring Peruvian craftswomen wearing the same manta, a traditional garment, in creative ways. Two fashion students who I went to school with at Dominican University and I modeled in a photoshoot in Downtown Chicago. We found inspiration in the city's gorgous architecture and natural landscapes. We're wearing our own clothes- Sarah's hat is from Spain that she bought while studying abroad, my hat is from & Other Stories, and Jacquie's floral pants are from Free People. Jessie took these amazing photos of my Grandma, my brother's fiance Elizabeth, my niece Charlotte Pearl, and me at my Grandma's house in East Grand Rapids. I have fond memories of coming over to my Grandma's and trying on her old dresses and jewelry so we did a dress-up photo shoot! My dress is from the 1970s and Elizabeth's is from the 50s. Thanks to everyone who came out to the party and participated in the photo shoot. Since it was rainy we moved under a gazebo instead of staying at the boathouse. The shoot came out more mysterious and dreamy. I applied some vintage filters to the pictures. We had a lot of fun! The pictures are mostly taken by Francisco Longo but also party guests. Tina Pizzo did my hair.

Here's a sample spread for the story on my fashionable Grandma. These pictures were taken by Earl Shumaker on her wedding day February 12th, 1949 at St. Stephen's Church in Grand Rapids. My Grandma has a simple, classy sense of style and has always taken care of her body and features. She has always been warm, hospitable, generous, and dedicated to her family. I did a photo shoot with her for the book, stay tuned for that!
