Is the $60 prenatal better than the $12 prenatal? Which claims are backed by solid science, and what we just don't know yet.

Women deserve better than having to parse through marketing claims, massive spreadsheets, and anecdotes from mom groups when making a choice to help them feel empowered while TTC and pregnant. Research on prenatals is extremely slow to catch up to looking at the outcomes that matter most, and we hope that's changing so more moms can have better answers.

The question of what prenatal is "actually best" shows up across pregnancy group chats, Reddit threads, and OBGYN appointments. Somehow, nobody has a real answer (and... some OBGYNs even disagree with each other).

Here's why, and what it would actually take to change that.

Is it safe to eat oysters in pregnancy? What about energy drinks, or yoga in a room that's warm but not "hot"?

This May's questions show us moms were getting ready for summer while prepping for pregnancy, birth, and beyond. No question is too big or too small to want the real data to make an informed decision that's right for you.

"Where you live counts" is both a catchy research poster title and an unfortunate emerging insight about pregnancy outcomes -- this poster presented at 's annual meeting followed 5500+ moms across 8 cities and looked at the impact of the ADI, or area deprivation index, on miscarriage risk.

It's a good reminder that improving pregnancy health and pregnancy outcomes isn't just about direct pregnancy care - but all types of social, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Providing holistic support for expecting moms and families, including/especially outside of the 4 walls of the clinic, is an increasingly important and evidence-based approach to improving maternal health.

Urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse are the common postpartum pelvic floor conditions that get research and clinician attention. Meanwhile, painful s*x after birth is rarely even asked about in check-ups, despite affecting up to 4 in 10 women.

Next up in the Zenith Expert Voices Series is Dr. Sneha Gazi, PT, DPT, ( ), an orthopedic and pelvic health physical therapist, founder of Sneha Physical Therapy, and creator of the online course "Master Your Pelvic Floor." She specializes in exactly this: and she's breaking down what the research actually says, where the gaps remain, and what can help if you're experiencing it.

Research gaps like this one are exactly why we built the Pregnancy Evidence Project. If you're pregnant or postpartum, your experience is real data that can change what gets studied. Get involved at the link in bio.

Yes, mouthwash and pregnancy outcomes... you heard that right!

Time for anothe research poster highlight from 's annual clinical & scientific meeting: this time on the maybe-suprising overlap between oral health and pregancy outcomes.

While it may not seem like a big deal in the scheme of things, this research presents an interesting insight that seemingly small things like education and access to low-cost interventions like mouthwash can actually make a difference. Great ways to support better pregnancy health don't have to always come in the form of complicated or expensive interventions!

It's World Preeclampsia Day: a day to raise awareness about one of pregnancy's most serious complications.

Preeclampsia is best known as a blood pressure problem, but it affects multiple organ systems, can develop quickly, and its effects don't always end at delivery.

Swipe to learn more about what it is, who's at risk, and why new research is giving us hope. Want to be a part of improving our knowledge and research on this condition? Get involved with the Pregnancy Evidence Project, where you can share your experience to help build the research base for future moms - the link is in our bio to join.

The idea that doulas are "anti-medicine" is one common, but very damaging misconceptions in perinatal care. And it's one that in this installment of the Zenith Expert Voices series, Lauren Smith, certified doula and OB/GYN medical assistant, is uniquely positioned to correct. Lauren works on both sides of the table: as a doula with individuals and families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period AND in the clinic, allowing her to integrate evidence-based information with physical and emotional support.

The evidence backs her up. Research shows doulas are associated with lower C-section rates, fewer interventions, and better birth experiences, working alongside medical care teams, not against them. For many women, distrust in the medical system is shaped by lived experience: dismissed pain, rushed care, and devastating health outcomes. It’s no surprise that some believe having an empowered birth means making a choice between a medicalized or holistic experience.

Follow Zenith for more insights from providers across the perinatal health care spectrum: from doulas and OB/GYNs to pelvic floor physical therapists, mental health professionals, naturopathic medicine practitioners, and more.

Changes in technology and policy mean more and more patients have easy access to portals containing their medical information, including visit notes written by their doctor in their electronic health records. This added layer of transparency can have unexpected consequences on the patient - provider relationship, depending on how the provider documents their notes...

Today we're highlighting one of our favorite posters that we saw presented at 's annual clinical & scientific meeting, focusing on the impact of how different tone and framing of clinical note language affects pregnant women with a history of substance use. The findings say a lot about what needs to change in the exam room.

Things that seem maybe simple and obvious to us as patients (like not using stigmatizing language in a note that patient "claims" or "denies" something) have a huge impact on one of the most important dimensions of care: whether or not patients feel like they can truly trust their provider to care for and support them.

Hoping this video reaches all of the perinatal care providers out there for this very important reminder! And make sure to follow Zenith for more of the most interesting research posters presented at ACOG, and other news in pregnancy research.

The “eating for two” comment gets a lot of airtime despite dubious support from the scientific evidence on how many extra calories are actually required in a healthy pregnancy.

But why, then, can hunger hit so hard - as early as the first trimester? What is the right way to adjust your diet throughout pregnancy?

Read a full summary of the evidence on caloric needs throughout pregnancy at the link in bio.
