Back in 2018 the town of Chandler had a design a town flag contest. I thought it would be a fun project for Landon and I to work on, so we worked together and made an entry. It was Donna Vanhooser who had sent me a message about the contest.
Later that year, we were notified that our submission was selected, but we were instructed to keep it quiet till the town gave us approval to share the news. Well, we recently have been given the okay to share, hence this post.
Each day when I drive to work, I pass through Chandler, and have always loved how they line the street that goes through town with American flags during this time of year.
As for the meaning behind the design of our flag entry, it is as follows:
The Train along with the letters EVWR (on the side of the train) is symbolic of the Lake Erie, Evansville & South Western Railroad, by which the foreman of that railroad was O.E. Chandler... who the town was named after in 1874. The following year the first underground coal mine was opened, thus symbolized by 2 pick axes with the black mountain shape facing downward. The blue background and stars at the top are taken from the Indiana state flag, whereas the green color on the base of the flag is symbolic of Chandler... the colors together are to symbolize the town as part of the state.
