Shout out to Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup for hosting a great live-audience podcast recording last night featuring our founder Nathan Heber!

The event was a fun reminder of how much Nathan has shaped the culture of Boatyard: an entrepreneurial spirit, a commitment to constantly learning, and (at times) a painfully nerdy love of technology. Company culture starts at the top.

Check out the full recorded session on the podcast.

Oil crossed $100 a barrel for the first time since 2022. That number has likely already showed up at your fuel dock, in your freight invoices, and on your parts orders.

While none of us like this much uncertainty on the cusp of spring recommissioning, the best advice given to consumers applies to businesses, too: don't make reactive, emotional decisions.

Read our practical guide to financially war-proofing your marine service business BEFORE you decide to stockpile $80k in parts at peak prices.

How many hours did your techs actually bill last week? How many did you expect them to bill?
In Boatyard, you'll be able to answer that in 30 seconds. Your dashboard can report estimated vs. logged hours and labor profitability per job— plus, you'll see jobs flagged in red when they've run over. Billable vs. productive hours, visible in real time. The number that changes everything when it comes to understanding where you're leaving money on the table.

The key to reducing spring launch chaos is staying AHEAD of your customers.

Even if your season doesn’t start until May, start taking bookings now. People are tired of the cold, and their boat hasn’t been draining their wallet for a few months. It’s the perfect time to lock in their launch, and suggest a couple upgrades.

📍Easy hack to drive more early launch bookings:

Send out a “Save the Date” over email and social announcing when launch bookings open. Be sure to use the words "first come, first served." Suggesting scarcity drives demand, and people will pay attention and book more quickly when the booking date arrives!

If your DMS contract was up tomorrow, would you sign it again?

Long terms. Slow support. Outdated workflows.

It might be time to ask better questions.

We just published 10 questions every marine dealer should ask before committing (or recommitting) to their management software.

Boat listings live or die by photos.

Today we’re announcing a new AI-powered photo enhancement feature in Boatyard Sales, built to help boat dealers instantly improve listing image quality with no editing skills and no extra steps.

In today’s digital-first buying market, great visuals matter more than ever. But most dealerships don’t have the time or resources for professional photography or manual edits. This new tool automatically improves lighting and clarity and removes visual distractions, helping listings look more professional and perform better, faster.

Minimum wage increases took effect across 19 states on January 1, driving higher payroll costs for service teams.

The real risk is often not the increase itself, but allowing outdated labor rates to quietly erode margins on every job.

If technician wages went up but canned jobs or service packages did not, profitability takes a hit without anyone noticing.

We break down where rates changed and how marine businesses can protect margins as labor costs rise— check it out here: https://boatyard.com/blog/post/minimim-wage-increases-january-2026/
