I have been researching and paying attention to every creator talking about Meta’s new AI policy that goes into affect today. As an artist, creator, and small business whose business relies on social media it really sucks knowing what to do. I can’t just delete my social media accounts because I financially rely on them.
I sadly just know the feeling of expecting my art to be stolen. For years it was the Temus of the world and people wanting to make a quick buck, which is still happening. I fight it when I can but it would be a full time job tracking down every time my art is stolen. Now I just expect that everything I post on the internet is going to get put in an AI model. It doesn’t make it suck any less knowing that. It is one of the most violating feelings seeing others profiting off of what you spent your entire life working on.
So what can I do and focus on since it changes every single day? AI can try to imitate your skills and style but it can never take your:
CREATIVITY, COMMUNITY, POINT OF VIEW, AND WHAT MAKES YOU HUMAN. Why do people buy from me? Support me? And hire me? Because they relate to my work and appreciate how I solve problems. Only we, humans, can have the imagination to create the future. Keep creating, keep fighting AI, keep talking about it, keep raising hell, keep having hope, and vote in the midterms! For now I am using Foxglove before publishing any images online. I am also blocking any AI crawlers from my website. Feel free to share any tricks for fellow artists and small businesses as we continue to navigate this ever changing landscape.
I love and value my community so much. If you are leaving Meta please sign up for my newsletter and follow me on - TikTok, BLUESKY, and Tumblr. Fingers crossed I can get my Patreon up soon! I will continue to search for other platforms where we can stay connected.
