The history of Public Lands is full of inequity and the dispossession of land from other people. The future of Public Lands can be different.
Last weekend and the .s.forestservice invited people from everywhere to build equity in our public lands through Trail Weekend.
Over 100 people came to Old Fort, NC from as far away as Vermont to help construct and maintain sustainable public trails in the National Forest.
Outdoor recreation represents the largest and most diverse segment of people engaging with the National Forest system. By bringing together equestrians, trail runners, hikers, and mountain bikers this event not only created a ton of new access opportunities it also built community while fostering conversations between trail users who often come into conflict with each other.
I am stoked to be part of this movement. The voice of the average person is gaining as much strength as the corporate interests that would exploit the land.
I invite you to join me for the next Trail Weekend in the fall. Together we can ensure the future of public lands is better than its past.
