The Top 3 MacBook Killers (And How to Avoid an Expensive Repair)
Hey everyone! As your local tech neighbors, we see a lot of MacBooks come across our repair benches. While they are fantastic, durable machines, they aren't bulletproof.
If you want to keep your MacBook running smoothly and save yourself some serious cash, keep an eye out for the three most common issues we see every day:
1. The Swelling Battery Batteries are wear-and-tear items. After about 3–4 years of regular use, they start losing their juice. But keep an eye on your trackpad or the bottom case—if it looks like it’s warping, lifting, or if your trackpad suddenly stops clicking properly, your battery might be swelling. If you catch it early, it’s a quick swap. If you leave it, it can bend the aluminum frame or damage the trackpad!
2. The "Hidden" Screen Cracks MacBook screens are incredibly thin. The number one-way people crack them isn't dropping the laptop—it’s closing the lid when something tiny is sitting on the keyboard. A stray paperclip, a pen, or even those plastic we**am covers can instantly crack the LCD when pressure is applied. Always give your keyboard a quick swipe before you shut the lid!
3. The Liquid Spill Panic It happens to the best of us—a morning coffee or a glass of water tips over. Because the keyboard sits directly over the main logic board, liquid gets inside instantly. Pro tip: If you spill something, don’t put it in rice (that just gets dust and starch inside). Shut it down immediately, unplug it, flip it upside down like a tent so the liquid drains away from the components, and get it to a pro right away. Corrosion sets in fast!
Taking care of these machines pays off in the long run. If your MacBook is acting up, running hot, or just needs a health check, we're right here in the community to help get it sorted out. We can offer genuine Apple parts direct from Apple.
