How do you get cell service in the middle of nowhere?
It’s a question we get more often than you might think.
And the answer has changed quite a bit over the years.
When EnerCom Networks first started providing cellular solutions in the oilfield, we were boosting 3G signal with equipment that wasn’t much different from a traditional home cell booster.
Then came 4G.
Then LTE and 5G.
Today, in some of the most remote locations we work, we’re essentially creating a small cellular network for the well site.
How?
📡 First, we establish a reliable internet backhaul to the location.
🔗 That connection feeds network-extender technology.
📶 We then engineer and broadcast cellular coverage across the site—sometimes covering 5+ acres where usable service previously didn’t exist.
But here’s the important part:
Not every location needs the same solution.
If usable cellular signal exists nearby, a properly designed large-area BDA system may be able to capture, amplify, and redistribute that existing signal across the location.
If there isn’t enough usable signal to amplify, that’s when we look at creating connectivity another way.
And today, that connectivity matters more than ever.
The oil and gas industry has become incredibly data driven. Operators, drilling contractors, service companies, directional teams, vendors and countless pieces of equipment rely on connectivity to communicate and exchange information.
What used to be a convenience has increasingly become part of the infrastructure of a modern well site.
That’s one of the things we enjoy about this business.
Every location presents a different problem. Our job is figuring out the right way to connect it.
