Fleets are losing drivers to English proficiency checks.

FMCSA is enforcing stricter rules—drivers who can’t speak or read English are being placed out-of-service on the spot. That means delayed loads, lost revenue, and compliance headaches.

DQid’s English Language Proficiency (ELP) gives fleets a cost-effective way to train and certify drivers—so you stay compliant and keep trucks moving.

Roadside enforcement is here.

FMCSA isn’t just giving warnings—drivers who can’t pass English proficiency checks are being placed out-of-service, and states risk losing millions if they don’t comply.

CDL schools are raising costs and stretching timelines. DQid makes ELP training faster, affordable, and FMCSA-compliant—keeping your fleet moving.

New FMCSA Enforcement Fleets Can’t Ignore

The FMCSA reinstated English proficiency enforcement. During roadside inspections, drivers who cannot demonstrate basic English communication may now be placed out of service immediately.

What this means for fleets:

🚛 Immediate risk of downtime if drivers are sidelined
🚛 Potential revenue loss from disrupted schedules
🚛 Increased liability during audits if compliance gaps remain

The positive side? Compliance is achievable and affordable. Proactive training ensures drivers meet requirements, helps fleets avoid penalties, and strengthens overall safety.

👉 For fleets, staying ahead of legislation isn’t just about avoiding violations—it’s about building resilience, protecting operations, and maintaining trust.

Beyond the License: What Really Keeps Roads Safe

Last week’s illegal U-turn that left three people dead in Florida wasn’t just about one mistake. It exposed a deeper issue: a driver holding a CDL who couldn’t read English road signs or understand inspectors’ questions.

When that happens, it’s not only a compliance failure — it’s a systems failure. And the cost is measured in lives.

As an industry, we owe it to the public and to our drivers to make sure qualifications are verified, training is effective, and no one is put behind the wheel unprepared.

Our role at DQid is simple: to share expertise, deliver insights, and provide affordable options that help fleets close compliance gaps and strengthen safety culture. Because at the end of the day, it’s about protecting people — not just passing inspections.

Loss of Service Today, Lawsuit Tomorrow: Just One Language Misstep.

With EO 14224 now being enforced, inspectors are asking in English. If your driver can’t read signs, respond to questions, or communicate clearly, it’s not just a fine. It’s missed loads, lost contracts, and lives at risk.

This isn’t about paperwork. It’s about people and safety — and the systems we build to keep the road safe for everyone.

Fleets have a choice: wait until shutdowns happen, or act now — verify, train, and support drivers before the risk becomes reality.

At DQid, we help fleets strengthen compliance and safety culture. We provide practical, people-first solutions that are faster, simpler, and far more affordable than the old ways of doing things.

Because compliance shouldn’t cost a fortune — but non-compliance can cost everything.

Failing DOT English Compliance Could Cost You Your Operation

In Executive Order 14224, signed in March 2025, President Trump officially designated English as the national language of the United States and declared English proficiency a non-negotiable safety requirement for commercial drivers.

As the Executive Order outlines:

"They should be able to read and understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety, border patrol, agricultural checkpoints, and cargo weight-limit station officers... Yet this requirement has not been enforced in years, and America’s roadways have become less safe."

With this shift, ELP is no longer a gray area. Regulators are watching—and violations will increase.

Carriers could face heightened scrutiny during hiring, audits, and roadside stops—especially if they can’t show clear evidence of compliance.

To help carriers stay ahead, DQid has launched its new ELP feature:

A purpose-built AI platform that assesses drivers’ English proficiency quickly and affordably. Helping carriers meet new compliance mandates without the high cost or complexity of traditional testing.

For drivers, it’s a way to build confidence before the inspection.

For carriers, it’s one less compliance gap to worry about.
