Knowing your provider covers some of your CMMC controls is one thing - sorting exactly what you inherit is another. When a cyber incident hits, stopping the hacker is only part of the job. The organization also has to figure out what happened - and that's what "anti-forensics" tries to prevent. It's when attackers hide their tracks by changing timestamps, deleting logs, or wiping systems, so the security team can't piece together the story. The impact isn't just an IT headache. What did the CMMC pause actually change? On July 13, the Department of War suspended Phase 2, the stage that would have required third-party C3PAO assessments on new contracts starting November 10. A 60-day Reform Task Force is now reviewing the program.

The part that gets missed: Phase 1 self-assessment, DFARS 7012, NIST 800-171, and SPRS all still apply. What paused was the verification, not the standard. We break it all down in our latest Hive Live, streaming now: youtube.com/

If you handle CUI, you know NIST 800-171 as the baseline you're required to meet. Revision 2 is still the enforced version today, but the DoW has made it clear Revision 3 is coming. So what's different? Rev 3 reorganizes everything into 97 controls across 17 families, adds new families for planning, acquisition, and supply chain risk, and expands assessment objectives by 32%. Here's the catch: you shouldn't jump straight to Rev 3 yet, because you'd end up "unmet" on what you're actually assessed against today.
