Another opinion from a former data center worker and network/IT engineer to counter the deluge of, possibly, chinese backed anti-data center media. It makes sense, if they can sabotaged USA based data centers and all the revenue, THEY can reap the benefits.

Modern DC facilities bring high-paying jobs ($100k+), constant local contracts especially in the HVAC, electrical and infrastructure, and long-term investment to communities. Even when tax incentives are offered, they still expand the local tax base through property improvements, equipment, payroll, and secondary economic activity (economics has ripples).
A few facts:
• Water use for many modern facilities is primarily tied to evaporative cooling during hot, low-humidity conditions; cooler weather often requires far less water. VA does not have many favorable evaporative cooling days, so water use is relatively low compared to southwest USA.
• Noise is typically very low during normal operations; the main audible events are scheduled backup-generator tests, usually conducted mid-day on weekdays. As generators get better and small modular reactors are deployed, even this occasional noise will subside in the near future. My DC's are worked at had no noticeable noise beyond 1/4 mile. Even at 300 yards, it sounded little more than a large commercial building like your neighborhood Costco.
• Energy efficiency improves significantly during cool and cold weather because data centers use outside-air (“free-air”) cooling, reducing mechanical cooling demand. Some are even returning potable water used for cooling as HEATED water to nearby neighborhoods that greatly reduces their power bills. Hey, what about a free steam-clean carwash using this heated water?

Good planning, sound zoning, and modern designs can make data centers a strong economic asset while minimizing neighborhood impacts.

Your IT is protected but did you think about your OT?

Everyone talks about protecting the data hall, the servers, the cloud infrastructure, and the IT network inside modern data centers.

But there’s a critical issue many organizations still overlook:

The Operational Technology (OT) environment is what keeps all of it running.

Without the OT systems and networks that support power distribution, cooling, environmental controls, fuel systems, monitoring, and facility operations, the “main asset” — the data — goes dark.
