- Weekly check-in for the week of 3/20 -
âś…I read Don't Get a Job, Make a Job, by Gem Barton and wrote a simple review on my 2026 reading list post.
âś… Did a lot of thinking on my brand and business plan.
âś… Planned out the next 5 strips for my What the Eft comic.
âś… Worked on character designs for another comic project.
âś… Worked on 2 logo designs at my day job
âś… Studied grid systems for layouts
âś… Researched options for websites. I'm tired of paying for a simple website and I don't like that I need plug-ins to do what I want. But to have Plug-ins I would have to pay more. I'm looking into coding my own site using Visual Studio Code and hosting it through GitHub. Time and convenience are definitely a factor in this decision though.
This week I'll share the American Institute of Graphic Arts, or AIGA - The Professional Association for Design. This organization has chapters all over the world and offers training, networking, workshops, meetups, artist talks, competitions, job finding help, professional development, and lots more! I attended the 2025 Design Fest in Portland, Maine last year and it was a great event. I didn't attend the week-long list of activities leading up to the final day of talks and workshops but If I plan my time right, I'll do it this year.
