Yesterday I brought three works to 317 Art Collaborative for the Annual Members At Large Group Show opening Friday, November 14th in Rockford, IL. The show runs through December, including the Holiday Hijinx - Annual Artist’s Gift Market later this month.
This one is my latest finished piece, “Natasha Gathers.”
Natasha from Big Rick Organics at Lamb of God Farm is one of my favorite vendors at the Sunday Oswego Country Market, with her beautiful fresh flower bouquets and amazing veggies and herbs (the beets are my favorite). I asked permission to use a social media photo of her carrying a huge flower haul (photo credit: Allison Kapitanoff) and then changed it a bit as I worked on the art. Instead of illustrating only the flowers, I included the rainbow of wonderful farmers market products from local producers like Big Rock Organics. The background is a little different, too. 😉
It took two years of on and off work; I was creating it for myself and when other things came up I always set it aside. I finally decided that I wanted to see it through completion and prioritized it that way.
20”x20” mixed media drawing and some paint, on canvas.

RAAC Rockford Area Arts Council’s Fall 2025 ArtScene kicks off tonight and runs through Saturday night. I’ll be part of the “Bruised” group art exhibition to raise awareness and support for survivors of domestic abuse at 317 Art Collaborative on Market Street in the River District in downtown .
This photo is from the 2025 Spring ArtScene and this live performance art is the work of Offbeat Imagry… who also created the image for tonight’s The ArtBar show and will be the featured artist for an ArtBar show early next year.
ArtScene is amazing; I wish I could go both nights but will definitely be up tomorrow night.

For tonight’s October ArtBar I’ve submitted “YOW!!” my tribute to underground comix cartoonist Bill Griffith. I have loved Zippy the Pinhead for years and combined it with a Moonpie (although Zippy’s tastes run more to Ding Dongs with taco sauce).
The ArtBar starts at 7 pm tonight at the historic Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora as part of First Fridays.
