Good example of a 2012 series, 400 + serial number amps. Bad focus, but obvious higher quality large pots, good jacks, 620 carbon comp quad board on the input- now standard on all models. Yellow multilayer circuitboard insulator, and the mad scientist RCA jack soldered to the box. 100 ohm volume control can be rotated from the back during testing. Best model for that nightime practice when the strats on yr pillow, or toss in the guitar case. These would be special order now, unless i find an old one. Now concentrate on pedalboard models. Thanx. - ACE

Old photo found, unknown serial number but no doubt a PC model. Economy, surplus parts. Stayed with the theme of " Input, Gain , Volume" in a top row. Note the large 5600 ohm resistors, the standard L pad input, until I used them up. Also the circuit board with the IC called " the injured Octopus" with 7 wires that interfaced with the hardware. The light green square insulator under it was a cut piece of drafting table vynil. Very expensive 3 layer material, but I didn't know at the time. The original cambric insulators were a plasticized fabric with high E. resistance. Some controls were wired with a 4 color ribbon cable, also used until it was gone. It was a time saver. Other units had the violet / white cloth wire I still use today. A lot of the PC,s had plastic bead k***s, especially units sold at live fair events. And those fit the blue plastic Gain control shafts.
The standard now is wood beads, Red for Gain, bare wood or black or green for volume. I may still have some of the Japanese 100 ohm volume controls, will use them in the next 10 units that come off the Big Orange Work Bench. Thanx for reading. If you have an old STGA, tell us about it.

Just cleaning out old storage, and there it was, old number 7! The headphone Amp I kept for myself, adding the mods I wanted, not knowing it would set many standards, and even launch a little hobby biz!
To keep my young kids entertained while I soldered, old number 7 became a cartoon character on full page coloring contests. I'd print 50 copies, crayons n colored art pencils would be everywhere. All the kids in the neighborhood would compete for prizes. The pages became advertising, and I'd be building more amps! The battery backpack became box 2 with the switch over to altoid tins, saving labor. You'll still get a coloring contest page with all instruction manual orders through paypal.me/elewis631. $5.00 + yr snailmail. Keep looking around for the amps, even wayback to 1987!

You gotta start somewhere.. prototype paper logo in pencil. 1st layout of the tool box logos. The built units had wide control k**b spacing, larger pots, shielded wires. Intended for guitar techs and Roadies, amps had higher output, more gain, and calibration marks. Also more expensive, so of course Roadies didn't buy them, or the teenagers. So I usually went back to building 10 units in a row as cheaply as possible, to get more sold at the open markets. Tool box amps sold more often online.
There's 1 in Portland somewhere, mounted on a slant box. I loaned it out to a player with a retail store. It was a Demo people could play at Saturday Market, built in AC power supply, headphone hanger. Hope it turns up someday! Haven't seen it since 1996.

Found fuzzy photo of unknown serial number headphone amp. Cutouts and plastic k***s are simular to the pc numbers, but the tool box logos were older than that. This paper logo has a cutout and patch! Also the block logo battery box cover. Volume k**b next to Rocker switch is a rarity. This may be a multiple owner rebuild. I remember something happened to my drilling jig, so used a new tin snip method of jack mounting. I was never happy with it, also used alot of tin solder for repairs. I finally got a Dremel rotory ceramic cutting bit, it makes fast , smooth holes. Sometime i might find more fotos in old computer hard drives, to get more details on this old "verticle style"amp. 90 degree audio cable plugs were best, less interference with Gain control k**b.
Keep looking for these old amps, let me know if you want yours featured!

Found another story on an old STGA unit, serial number STA25. old demo unit built in late 1987-88. it is a blue standard Sucret's Box, with a green sticker, black k***s, red painted screw on the rocker switch.
It had a hand-soldered battery box on the back, as did all the headphone amps up to STA50, or more.
Dave, a guy at my job, borrowed it for a month. Then it was passed on to Ed the bass player. He said it had a great gain control.
Then i traveled across country and took it with me, so i could play guitar on the train. It made it to Minneapolis, Minn. where i found a mom n pop music store with a guitar guy named Tony L. . I gave tony the STA25 as a gift. he was giving me all kinds of guitar stuff, big guitar case, picks, strings. I lost contact with him, so who knows where the little Amp is now?

Have you found an old STGA with a strange serial number on it?
A player just sent info on a PC number. These were units built in Polk County, early as 1998. Some were sold at summer fairs, some on Ebay, And I'm-not-sure-where -else. Then they get moved all over the country. My sketchy records only go to PC 23. With 11 psuedo names. Many players wanted to stay incognito.
Thats fine, if you can give me just a name and a state to go with a serial number, we dont use anyones info for anything.
We like to hear stories of the little headphone amps, you can post them here or message me. Edward
