Product Designer..
Product design from concept to mass-production is always been my desire for last 40 years of my High Tech Engineering Career.
If you ask any product designer we will generally say we can design anything. This is true. But at the end each designer will come up with different unique solution. And only one solution will be a winning solution, the solution which could be mass-produced and survive competition. In my career, I have brought dozens of products to the market. This has involved countless design approaches and engineering reviews, communication with marketing and sales teams, and direct connections with manufacturers. But prior any design there was tons of studies and researches completed, and dozens of Conferences, Courses and Professional Shows attended. Plus it was unlimited amount of Software, Firmware and Hardware tools and KiITs installations in order to make myself an expert in any tool I could need to use in each phase of design flow. This was how it was always done.
Once the final approach is done and rolling, the production tune up began, pre-production!
First-article Documentation included Engineering format for Part Lists and Schematics and Mechanical Drawings. Then Prototype idea creation, Fixture design, Prototype production and Testing plan. Technicians and Assemblers training program is on entire time of project. Documentation for all regulations and agencies for all kind of approvals is going in “parallel”.. Documentation for production including multiple layers of Part Lists and file formats for each specific component manufactured, or OEMed, or even purchased. Then Pilot run - most exited moment. Testing, studying - green light/red light decisions!
Then Full production run. Then Maintenance and revisions - improvement for my product and for manufacturing process. All on me!
And then post-production process.
Customer relationships, Customer Support, Customer repairs, Improvements based on customer feedback. None-stop process I call “challenge”!
At the end I slow down and make myself ready for my next design, which will be even more “Challenging” than any design I have ever done before - this is my life... and I love it!
