Jobhuntbuddy.com

Jobhuntbuddy.com The TOTAL Contact Manager and Job Search Board. Check out: www.jobhuntbuddy.com JobHuntBuddy concept is simple.

Keep track of your contacts, e-mails, job submissions in one place, with 24/7 access via iPhone, Android, Laptop, PC, and Mac. JobHuntBuddy.com is a CRM (Contact Relationship Manager) designed specifically for the Job Searcher. Hopefully you won’t need it for long, but when you do, it is available to you online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. On your laptop, Smart Phone or a computer at the Li

brary, you have access to your notes. It’s clear that many Job Seekers are overwhelmed with activities stemming from dealing with a massive job search. Even prior to today’s economic downturn, there were many Job Seekers with no direction or organizational skills. Often we find that it is easy to manage or work activities, but impossible to manage our own Job Search. It is a system of keeping track of Contacts, Notes, Schedules, Resumes & Cover Letters, and other Job Search tools – all linked to E-Mail, Job Boards, Faxing System, and Recruiter Searches. All of which is organized into a calendar of Automated Tasks, Events, Reminders and Pop-Up activities. The system is free for the users, but has a low fee for anyone wishing to post a job opening or a career fair.

A tip for: Let the other candidates relax during the weekend. You should get on the ball!

While they are enjoying themselves, you could better spend your time doing:

-Resume edits
-Cover Letter changes
-Company research
-Review of your contact lists and leads

Of course, you should enjoy your weekend too, so don't kill yourself. But use the time; the other guy is wasting his.

A tip for you: Define the line between "Sucking up" and true gratitude.

Some job web sites try to answer the following question from an interviewer:

"Where do you see yourself in five years?"

Many popular answers sound something like this: "In five years I plan on being your right-hand man, helping you achieve your goals and making you look good for the company."

Everyone likes their egos pumped; me included. But delivering this answer may have the opposite impression: Is this guy feeding me a line?

So, this is a delivery issue. It needs to be practiced, and practiced, and practiced. Your tone, your smile, your body gestures could tip off the interviewer that something smells fishy. Worse yet, your interviewer might be someone in HR who will never see you again.

So, the best thing to do is be prepared with TWO answers. One should be a well refined answer that boosts the ego, AND one answer that describes the types of projects that you would like to work on.

"In five years, I want to be the #1 sales person at the company."
"In five years I want to be so familiar with my duties that I can find ways to cut costs and increase productivity."
'In five years I want to know that my work helped land the men on Mars."
In five years I want you to be so proud of me that you remember this day as one of the best finds ever."

Again, practice, practice, practice........

GOOD LUCK, and come back to share your stories....

-Scott

A tip for you:

Just because he is a "guy," doesn't mean that you are his "pal."

Your interviewer might seem like a cool guy. but that doesn't allow you to let loose. To be viewed as a professional, you should remain acting as a professional.

Because you never know if your interviewer is deeply religious, gay, happily married, or the son of a minister........

Avoid topics such as alcohol, religion, sexuality, politics and drugs. these topics are a mine field.

(You'd be surprised how many people discuss this in an interview!)

An example: You are in a 3rd interview, and your interviewer asks you to grab a drink. what should you do? you certainly don't want to offend him, but you want the opportunity to spend the extra time with him.

in my case, I state: "Steve, I would love to grab some appetizers let's go. But I warn you, I'm not that fun right now. I am training for a triathlon and am eating light. I also have cut out alcohol trying to cut weight......".

Notice I don't sound preachy, and am willing to go. But I forewarned him that I won't be drinking. I have given him a few things: 1) I am committed to something. Employers like that. 2) I am willing to go because I think that building time is important, and 3) I have given him the opportunity to say, "No, you're right. I have to get home too."

You can be "one of the guys" once you get hired.

But always remember the new guy is tested. Avoid sexual harassment issues by avoiding the subject all together. Same with drinking, drugs, and politics......

A tip for you: Network the "right" way. people who are good "networkers", always:

1) Ask for permission before name dropping. "Is it OK if I tell so-and-so that you referred me?

For the bulk of the time, that person will say "Yes, go ahead and use my name." And....you've bolstered the referrals sources ego by involving them and giving them some amount of control. Just asking this question will give your referral source a strong impression of your integrity.

But there are a few situations where the person might say no because they don't have the appropriate relationship with the connection. they may have been fired, or may barely know the connection. They might also not want to get involved because their recommendation might not have worth to the other party.

Because we don't know all of the politics, its always best to ask for permission.

I have had a colleague come up to me and say, "I spoke to this guy, who said he knew you. What do you think of him?". I had to be honest and tell him that I barely knew the guy, and it sounded as if he was using my name to get somewhere.

So what do you think he thought of the candidate?

2) Send the referral source a quick Thank You note and include a couple of things you discussed with the other person. That way, if the two of them speak about you in the future, they would have some common ground for conversation.

Along with the empowerment as mentioned earlier, you are building your professional relationship.

3) Don't assume it's OK to use that person's name again. Unless he says otherwise, always ask for permission.

4) Write notes on BOTH these contacts in your www.JobHuntBuddy.com account! You may need to look at them again.

A tip for you: Exercise. Not only does exercise keep your mental focus, it also keeps you "on top of your game."

As an employer, I make decisions on things based on my PERCEPTION of the issues. When given two choice, I typically opt for the answer that will work for the long haul.

Overweight? You can bet it is a factor in your prospective employers decision. Some say that heavy employees stay at their desks longer, and get more work done. Some say otherwise. Personally, I try to hire people who are the most qualified for the job; but given today's market, there are PLENTY of qualified employees out there. So who gets hired?

Feeling good about yourself and your physical appearance will be projected in your confidence, courage, and personality.

Keep up the exercise!

A tip for you: Eye contact "done right" will get you noticed by the hiring manager. Eye contact "done wrong" will get you noticed when your resume moves to the trash pile!

Don't let the unemployment blues change your facial reaction, especially if you have been looking for a job for a while. You want to be confident, but not seem cocky. You want to be eager, but not desperate. You don't want your potential employer to think that you know more than he does, even if you do.

"The eyes are the window of the soul, the mouth the door." - Hiram Powers

So, what can you do? Try this - Stand in front of a mirror. Practice the facial expressions. (Yes, PRACTICE! ) You will learn something about your habits. Put on an interview outfit if you like, to get the final "look.". You should practice both the good expressions and the potential interview killers.

Practice the following facial expressions in your mirror:

Eager
Thank you for your time
Confident
Surprised
Interested
Over Zealous
Bored
Eye Rolling for a bad joke or something your heard you disagree with
Cocky
Questioning
Making a point
Butting In / Interrupting
Holding back from speaking out of turn
See you soon
Running late
I understand
I don't understand
Smug

Some of these are tricky, right? The more you know about how you are perceived, the better you will be able to use (or not use!) these expressions. Sometimes, doing nothing is more powerful than you know....
