October Community Spotlight: Sheffield Place

Since 1991, Sheffield Place has been dedicated to one mission: to empower homeless mothers and their children to heal from their trauma and become self-sufficient. Based in the Sheffield neighborhood of Northeast Kansas City, it's the only residential treatment and supportive housing program in the metro that focuses exclusively on highly-traumatized, homeless mothers and their children.

Through onsite mental health services, addiction recovery support, case management, and life skills training, Sheffield Place helps mothers and children heal together and build a path toward permanent housing and stability. In 2026, they're on track to serve more than 170 families, up from just 20 families as recently as 2010.

Jeremy Hamblin shared a simple but important reminder on FOX 2: your phone may be sharing more about you than you realize.

Many apps ask for access to your location, contacts, camera and microphone, even when they don't need it to work. Once you tap "Allow," that data can be collected, shared or sold.

Take two minutes today to open your phone's settings and review which apps have access to what. If a shopping app wants your contacts or microphone, it's worth asking why.
