Color can support meaning, but it should not carry the whole message.

If a chart uses red for overdue and green for complete, also add words, symbols, patterns, or labels so people can understand the status without distinguishing the colors.

The same idea applies to forms, buttons, links, schedules, and documents. A quick test is to view the design in grayscale. If the meaning disappears, add another cue.

Placeholder text should not do the job of a form label.

Give every field a visible, persistent label, such as “Email address.” Keep instructions and error messages in text so they remain available after someone starts typing.

Clear labels reduce guesswork for screen-reader, voice-input, cognitive, and mobile users—and help more people complete forms independently.

A helpful gesture starts with asking.

Before assisting a person with a disability, offer help and wait for the answer. If the person accepts, ask how they would like you to help and follow their directions. Do not move a wheelchair, mobility device, cane, or personal belongings without permission.

Make meetings easier to use before they begin.

Send agendas, handouts, and links in advance using searchable documents with clear headings, descriptive link text, and meaningful file names. Early access gives participants time to use their preferred assistive technology and prepare questions.

A small preparation step can support more confident, independent participation.
