Below is the latest phishing attempt that is going around, trying to dupe Shentel email users. And some of you are getting barraged with these! Some of my clients are complaining of receiving 10 or 20 of these messages in quick succession.

If you receive this email or anything like it, don't believe it. It's not from Shentel. And the links don't go to any legitimate website. They lead to clever fake sites, that pretend to be Shentel, just so some scammer can collect your passwords.

If you made the mistake of falling for this ruse, and you think you typed your email password in on a phishing website, call Shentel tech support ASAP at 1-800-SHENTEL. Tell them what happened and they will help you get a new email password. Once the password is changed, you will have peace of mind that no bad actor is in your inbox.

I was about to share a new fun blog post about Amazon, when Facebook stopped me. "Sorry, bub, you've already posted two links this month. You need to pay up if you want to post any more URLs."

They now require Business Pages pay for a Meta One plan, to post more than 2 links per month. $50/mo would let me post 8 links in a month. $150/mo would let me post 20 links.

That Zucks. I'll have to ponder how we move forward from here. I'm certainly not paying into this new racket. For now, please check out my blog, if you like, and bookmark that site. I promise that will remain free for all.

Lately, I've seen a few people get dinged for "spamming" with their personal Shentel email address. And these folks were not spamming, and their email had NOT been hacked. If you still use an email ending in "Shentel.net", pay attention:

Shentel has a tight threshold on how much email can be sent, and if you exceed their limits, your Shentel address will be disabled and locked down with a spam violation. Using a Shentel email address, you must not exceed sending emails to 50 different addresses in 30 minutes. You must not exceed sending emails to more than 99 addressees in an hour.

If you cross those lines, then your email stops working. You will get an email notice from Shentel about the violation, but if you are using Outlook or some other email client, that may not arrive to you. In any case, once your address is locked up, you must call Shentel to get it out of jail. You may reach Shentel for this at 1-800-SHENTEL and their tech support is ready to help from 8AM to 11PM, seven days a week.

I'm adding an update to the bottom of this 2024 post about Broadband Consumer Labels. I am sad to report that these labels are not being used honestly.

For those who don't want a long read, here's the TLDR version:

Logged in to the Verizon website, I can find a Broadband Disclosure that says my 300M internet is $59.99/mo. Logged out of the website, that same disclosure (for the same address and speed plan) shows a price of $40/mo. I could be paying $20/mo more for my internet if I wasn't mistrustful and determined to dig for info.

It's not just Verizon. Most ISPs play games with their prices, but each ISP is tricksy in their own way. If you ever need help figuring things out with your particular ISP, I will give you what advice I can.

Does anyone still use websites to send email invitations, legitimately? I feel like I only ever see the phishing fakes...

Invitation Phishing is so very prevalent in 2026. I need to be wary of any unexpected invitation email, even if it looks legit and fun.
