✅ Quick Interview Tip

Of course, you know you should practice before an interview but how committed have you been to doing it?

🎥 One of the best things you can do is to use your computer’s video recording technology to practice your interview and test that everything looks and sounds right.

Perform a dress rehearsal in the exact same spot you’ll be interviewing. Make sure you’ve set the stage in the same way that it will be when you are interviewing.

Check your mic, sound and we**am functionality. Check the lighting and backdrop, so you’re positioned just right. Wear your outfit. Make eye contact. Speak clearly in a natural tone and cadence. Use hand gestures when you’re making key points. Smile! ☺️

✅ PRO TIP: Print key points and have them out of view of the camera but in a place where you can easily see them. For trickier questions, you can reference your notes quickly and get back to making your point clearly.

🚫 REMINDER: DO NOT use AI tools or notetakers during the interview as it will be disqualifying.

Finally, view your recording. How did you come across? You can practice again, tweaking what needs fixing, to make sure you’re ready. We know you’ll do great!

🌊 STEM Fact of the Week
This week’s STEM Fact celebrates World Oceans Day!

💡 Did you know? The ocean produces at least 50% of the oxygen we breathe and absorbs around 30% of global carbon emissions, making it one of the most important systems for sustaining life and regulating Earth’s climate.

Observed every year on June 8, World Oceans Day was established by the United Nations to raise awareness about the critical role oceans play in our daily lives and to inspire action to protect them. The ocean is essential to life on Earth, providing oxygen, supporting food systems, and sustaining economies and communities worldwide.

From regulating climate to driving natural cycles, the ocean is a cornerstone of environmental science and global sustainability. Yet, it remains one of the most complex and least understood systems on Earth.

This day is a reminder that protecting our oceans is not only an environmental priority, but also a STEM-driven challenge—requiring innovation in climate science, conservation, and sustainable technology.

📐 STEM Fact
🌈 Did you know? LGBTQ+ innovators have helped shape the foundation of modern STEM—from pioneers like Alan Turing to today’s leaders driving innovation across science and technology.

Alan Turing’s early work introduced the concept of a universal computing machine, laying the groundwork for modern computers, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. His contributions during World War II advanced computational thinking in ways that continue to influence fields like cybersecurity and data science today.

Despite these groundbreaking achievements, Turing was persecuted for his relationship with another man and for being gay, facing consequences that ultimately cut his career short.

His story is a powerful reminder that inclusion in STEM is not just about representation—it’s essential to progress, innovation, and ensuring that talent is never limited by bias or discrimination.

This Pride Month, we recognize the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals and the importance of building a more inclusive future across STEM.

Our STEM Fact this week comes from a galaxy not so far away…Stars Wars premiered this week in 1977 and for the film, Industrial Light & Magic developed a computerized motion-control camera system so they could repeat the same camera motions multiple times allowing them to layer multiple elements into a single shot smoothly. Called the Dykstraflex, it also allowed unprecedented freedom of movement along visual axes.
