GFXFLIP2.BAS – scrolling a PMODE 4 screen.

In a post to the CoCo mailing list, Juan Castro said this: "... I was trying to comment on this post - and I was trying to say this: In GFXFLIP.BAS, instead of the 'flip through them' code, try this: 1000 'GO DO THE ROTATION1010 GOTO 10501020 FOR P=2 TO 5:GOSUB 1070:PMODE 4,P:SCREEN1:NEXT1030 IF INKEY$="" THEN 1030…...

I came across this photo showing Iowa gas prices in March 2011. $3.50 for Regular and $3.37 for Plus. Those of you from non-ethanol states may think it odd that "higher grade" gas cost less, but Regular is non-ethanol and Plus is an ethanol blend. Cars get better MPG on non-ethanol so I don't use the ethanol stuff any more. The math may not work out money wise (I don't know right now) but I like going to the pump fewer times when it's -25 degrees outside in winter, or 92 in summer or raining. But I digress... Adjusted for inflation, this $3.50 in March 2011 should be $5.22/gallon right now - https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

Yet, we have cheap gas at around $4.00. And when gas was $1 back around 1980? That would be $14+ if adjusted for inflation.

Gas seems inflation proof. Explain this to us, please.

Is Facebook having loading problems for anyone else in a browser? About a week ago, it stopped loading - takes alot of fiddling to get a page to load. Other sites load quick. Clearing cache, etc. has changed nothing. Very very odd. Thought Chrome was working better, then it was doing the same thing after my initial attempts.

Today we saw the Backrooms movie. Being a fan of the YouTube series, it was interesting to see what items were brought forward, and what new items where created. About halfway through, it takes quite a different turn from what we've seen in the YouTube series.

It all began here... 80 million views and counting:

CamelCamelCamel is my favorite Amazon price tracking service (are there any others?), but now that Amazon has it built in, I wonder how much longer they will last.

And I wonder how long until hard drive prices drop... Geesh.

C DEBUG printf macros and while(0) loops?

Trigger warning: This post will show some examples that "just work" and "just work fine" but may not be correct. I am posting this because I'd like to hear how you do this. Show us all a much better way. I was today years old when I "learned" (possibly incorrectly) something (possibly) wrong that I have seen "always" done in the C debug print macros I've encountered....

Stupid VARPTR tricks

A recent e-mail exchange with CoCo user Torsten D. inspired me to try something stupid. The Radio Shack Color Computer gained the VARPTR command in the Extended BASIC ROM. As has been discussed here many times, VARPTR returns the memory location of a 5-byte variable descriptor. There are actually seven bytes total, since the two bytes before the VARPTR address is the two byte variable name....
