Last fall, I was lucky enough to score a ticket to the newly opened Nintendo Museum in Uji (just outside Kyoto). It was one of the highlights of my entire Japan trip!
After taking the train from Osaka, I stepped into a building filled with Nintendo nostalgia, every console they’ve ever released was there, along with the top 25 games for each system.
Upstairs had a beautiful floating-wall setup of consoles and game displays, and the basement turned into an interactive playground: shooting galleries, classic consoles to play, and even a small batting cage inspired by one of Nintendo's very first inventions.
It ended (as all good journeys do) at a gift shop packed with console-themed merch, including giant plush controllers I really wanted to bring home.
