The two most common approaches to sales planning – top-down and bottom-up sales planning – are frameworks for how your organization structures strategy development and who is involved in the process.

In top-down sales planning, leadership teams are responsible for developing sales goals and cursory outlines for strategies to achieve those goals. With bottom-up planning, team members who are out in the field interacting directly with customers are encouraged to present their own ideas for goals and strategies to leadership to approve.
