After 25 years in business, to this day one of the biggest challenges that I have is identifying the snake oil salesmen from the legitimate business opportunities. Even then, sometimes I get it wrong. Is this person actually a scammer? I can't say for certain, but I have learned to trust my gut. If the promise is too good to be true and they promise the sun, the moon, and then some, it's usually smoke and mirrors and you know just where they are trying to blow it.
From someone who has been doing this for a while, one thing I can tell you is that nothing grows your business faster than building relationships. Referrals are the way to go. It takes about 1/10th of the effort for me to sell your business to someone that I know than it does for you to call that person cold. Get out there and build relationships with your clients, build a trust, and join groups that help you leverage that in the form of referrals such as BNI, Leads2Business, and or many of the others that are out there. When you believe in your your product, your service, and your quality your client will too.
Here is an interaction that I had today:

Terry, Should I draft a sequence for you? >>External >>Inbox

Terry,
I recently created a lead generation system for businesses like Emend Informa, and we're getting a 28 percent reply rate for them. I think a similar sequence could work well for you.
Mind if I dig in a bit and put together a sequence tailored to your goals? Just say yes, and I will send it to your way early as I can.
Best,

Jay,
Just out of curiosity, if it is in fact as wildly successful as you say, then why aren't you using that as a strategy for your own marketing efforts to grow your own business? Why have you chosen to fall back to the "I've got the colonel's original secret recipe and nobody else has it" strategy?
